Teams from multiple states travelled to Oklahoma for the tournament, showcasing their skills. Lets get into the top players from 12U.
D’Michael Elldege
D’Michael Elldege
D’Michael Elldege looked like a well-rounded player in both of the games. His team did not do good, losing by 20 points and then 33 points, but he still managed to stick out. He was doing a little bit of everything: grabbing defensive rebounds, turning offensive rebounds into second chance points, driving the gap to score at the rim, and showing the ability to occasionally drive and kick to the shooter. On defense, he came away with a couple of blocks, a steal, and played good on-ball defense.
Hank Haggard
Hank Haggard
Hank Haggard looked impressive in the one game that I saw him play. He is not the tallest player, but he plays with enough heart and aggressiveness that he grabbed a few rebounds. He reflected a high I.Q by making the right passes and knowing when to help on defense. He displayed a great ability to shoot the ball, as he knocked down a couple of three pointers. One thing that I noticed about his shot is that he does not rush it. Not only does he reflect patience, he has a smooth follow-through. He drove the gap and finished in traffic on a play. It was impressive seeing the kind of impact and shooting ability he has.
Marquis Ibarra
Marquis Ibarra
Marquis Ibarra was impressive in his first game. He finished the game with 19 points and scored in a multitude of ways. He knocked down a three, a couple of free throws, and scored several times inside. He grabbed a few rebounds and came away with a steal. The steal led to him finishing over a defender in transition. There was one play that he made a good bounce pass that led to an assist. His team went on to win the game.
Stoney Belz
Stoney Belz
Stoney Belz is an elite shooter for his age. He had the most threes that I saw in any game today, finishing with four of them. One of his threes came off of a crossover. His impact went beyond his shooting ability, as he grabbed a few rebounds and had a couple of steals. To go along with the steals, he had a block and a nice assist. It was an impressive game for him, as he looked like a great 3 and D player.
Javontae Carroll
Javontae Carroll
Javontae Carroll had the best performance that I saw today. He dominated every area of the game: rebounding the ball at a ridiculous clip, finishing over and over in the paint off of offensive rebounds, driving the gap to finish inside, knocking down a couple of three pointers, and finding open teammates for assists routinely. That was just his offensive impact and rebounding. His defensive impact consisted of several blocks and steals, as well as him playing great on-ball defense and interior defense. He had multiple steals that led to transition points. It was a dominant performance for him as his team won by a wide margin.
Boedi Mitchell
Boedi Mitchell
Boedi Mitchell was a force to be reconned with on the defensive end. He came away with at least four steals, turning one of the into an assist. He had a few rebounds, with a couple of them leading to transition points. He played great help defense, knew when to double team, and was dominant with his interior defense. To go along with all of this, he knocked down a three pointer. It was an impressive game for him on the defensive side.
