Despite having the noteriety of being ranked, these players still fall below the radar. They’re looking to use the state tournament to change that. Never is that more evident than at the small school level. Here’s a look at some of the top ranked sleepers participating in this week’s state tournament.
I remember watching Carlos a few years ago as a promising underclassmen. He has fullfilled that promise in spads. The 6’4 forward is a versatile player that can drive the ball to the bucket or step outside and knock down the three. The sleeper is a top 90 prospect, looking to lead Wendover to another title.
Cummins will do a lot of the dirty work for Lake Mead. He is coming off a season that saw him do a little bit of everything, the physical forward can clean the glass, scores it inside, and has good passing skill. The top 90 sleeper will be pivotal in helping the Eagles reach their state goals.
Stephens may be a sleeper no longer. He’s put together impressive numbers in his first two seasons. The scoring guard now looks to cap the sensational start to his career by winning a state title.
Highlights
Taylor is a key player for a Mater East team that has had a remarkable season. The guard who approaches the top 50 in the rankings is going to be counted on to defend as well as make plays if Mater East is to hold the crown up at the end of the week.
Williams is a player that has steadily improved throughout his career. A top 50 player in the state, many times his talents take a back seat to the Bigs on his team, make no mistake about it, he’s every bit as vital to the Knight’s success. The heady PG, looks to use his driving and dishing skills, to lead Mater to a title.
