Monteff is one of the most physically imposing forwards in the state, and on Saturday night DeLaSalle had no answer for him. Once he caught anywhere near the basket, he was going to put 2 points on the board. His strength combined with quickness off the floor allowed him to bully his way into deep position before powering up to finish. Even if his first attempt didn’t fall, Monteff showcased a quick second leap to fight for the rebound and go right back up with it. He even showed the ability to step out of the paint and use an improving handle to take his man off the dribble. As DeLaSalle began throwing more defenders at him in the paint, Dixon was able to rack up 5 assists passing it out of the block. Defensively showed his blend of mobility on the perimeter and strength on the block. Ended the game with 26 points and 16 boards in a win.
Joseph had a quiet first half by his standards, but came alive in the 2nd to help CDH pull off a comeback win. The sophomore guard is so dangerous with the ball in his hands, as his change of speed and shot making ability make him a gifted isolation scorer. Play him too tight and he can hesitate before blowing by to the rim, but sag off and he has no problem pulling up for a jumper. He’s putting up just over 20 ppg this year as a sophomore, and despite battling some foul trouble he put up 24 in the win over DeLaSalle.
Highlights
Jaeden provided a spark off the bench in the first half for DeLaSalle to help them build a sizeable lead early on. Despite the loss in overtime, the freshman guard showed off his impressive skillset during his time on the floor. He’s one of those players who can heat up in a hurry, and he did just that as he drained three jumpers in quick succession before drawing an offensive foul to get the home fans fired up. Jaeden can effortlessly create space on the perimeter, has a quick release with the left hand, and as just a freshman he gets some impressive elevation on his jumper which makes it difficult to contest. He finished with 19 points on the night.
Greyson continued to put up impressive scoring numbers this season with a 31 point outburst against #1 ranked Totino-Grace. His ability to get high percentage looks around the basket in a variety of ways makes him dangerous on or off the ball. Greyson is a tremendous cutter, can beat his man off the dribble, and has the defensive instincts to pick up steals leading to open lay-ups on the other end. Showcased his high arcing outside shot as well as Uelmen drained a few threes in the win. Last year Greyson earned a big role for Minnetonka with his gritty defense, and now as a senior he’s taken big strides in the scoring department.

Elijah was overpowering opposing players in a win for Tartan on Friday night. Offensively there wasn’t much defenders could do when he caught the ball on the block, as he can take a hard drop-step and just power his way up through outstretched arms to score. He was dominating on the glass and converting his paint touches with efficiency. On the defensive end Elijah wasn’t giving up an inch of space on the block, and showed some quickness to move into position off the ball and block/contest shots.

Kevin Wilson

KJ is already starting at point guard for Tartan as just an 8th grader, and was making an impact to help them take down South St. Paul. He has very deep range from beyond the arc, with no shortage of confidence in his shot. Wilson was moving off the ball to find pockets of space, and when the ball came his way, he showcased a quick release to beat the closeout. Knocked down a deep shot late in the game that helped secure the win for his team. More than just a shooter, he showed great change of speed on the ball, and when a defender closed out too hard KJ was able to blow by and get into the lane.
Although South St. Paul came up short against Tartan, Elonzo impressed on both ends. In the second half there was a period of time where he just took over, getting to any spot he wanted to and making shots from all three levels. He has a shifty handle and can cover a lot of ground in limited steps/dribbles. Defensively he has the ability to pick up full-court and pressure the ball, and that pressure was enough to force a handful of mistakes from Tartan ball handlers. Simmons is scoring 17.8 ppg this season to lead SSP.
