-Bevins took a minute to get going but was very dynamic in the PG County Championship game for Gwynn Park. The violent changes of direction with an improved handle allowed him to get to his spots much easier to pass or score. His ability to get two feet in the score or create for others proved to be the separator down the stretch for Gwynn Park. Very interested to see how different his game looks with more shot-making on the perimeter and play-finishing around the rim next year at George Washington.
14p 3r 2s vs Bowie
-The senior PG did what he does best, break down his opponent and get to the second line of defense to create advantage situations for teammates. The floater in the paint is a consistent weapon that is really hard to time for shot-blocking defenders but he can also knock down shots consistently as a C+S threat from inside or outside the arc. His shifty change of pace as a ballhandler makes it really difficult for his matchup to jump the cadence in his dribble or cut off his path to the basket. Pope came through with timely buckets and two key offensive rebounds that sealed it for his team down the stretch on their way to a title
17p 6a 11r 1s 1b South River
-While it was a rough shooting day for Barney from the charity stripe, he impacted the game in a big way for South River with his paint touches. The physical 6’2 guard gets to his spots and uses some advanced footwork to navigate around the defense and get to the basket. He makes the right read to either score or create for others and doesn’t get sped up by the defense. His gritty play at both ends of the floor was key for a South River team that put his game away early. Interested to see what college coach pulls the trigger on this steady senior PG.
Highlights
-Brown turned in a workmanlike performance with a double-double of 11p 14r 4b 2s in the Baltimore City Championship against City College. The 6’4 wing was a menace on the glass, served as an effective weak-side shot-blocker opposite Foster, and used his explosiveness to finish his opportunities around the basket
7p 11r 2a 1b
-The 6’6 SG struggled with foul trouble in the second half but was brilliant in the first half on the glass for the Bulldogs. His ability to mix it up in the paint while also handling the ball well enough to get past forwards allows his squad lineup flexibility on both ends of the floor. The mix of length and athleticism make him an interesting available 2024 wing with some upside.
