It is time to recap this week and look at what our exciting prospects did. Here are the player evaluations from a few of the prospects that I saw in Week 6 of the 2023-24 season.
In my opinion, the junior lead guard is the glue that holds this Kokomo team together and there would not be well-ran offense without him. While he is on the shorter side, he has great on-ball skills and his quickness and IQ allow him to be a tough player to control if you are the defense. I watched him at the Hall of Fame Classic and was just super impressed with his playmaking ability. Most teams would love to have a guy like Bellamy on their team.
When it comes to underrated performances I watched last week, Gooden III I thought was one of them. I watched him at the Fishers Classic and was impressed with his size as a lead guard even at his underclassman age. He likes to attack the basket when he can and while on the ball, he showed some solid ability to make plays happen for himself and teammates. Good mixture of awareness, physical play, and IQ on the ball.
If I am being completely honest here, I did not know much about Pokorney heading into the Fishers Classic but came away with him being one of the more impressive players I watched all week. He is a 6’3 sophomore wing that can really score the ball at all three levels and do it with confidence at his age. Was a shot maker when Chesterton needed him to and made some strong plays on the defensive end. People will often look at Parrish and Sims as the main characters on this Trojan team but Pokorney showed he can win games for them as well.
At the Fishers Classic, Johnson was one of the more physically bigger prospects in the gym at all times. When locked in, he proved that he could be really dominant however the problem that I saw was a consistency with his motor at times. He is one of the more versatile bigs we have in the state and proved to be a stock-riser in the 2024 class over the summer. If he can play with a strong motor throughout a game, he can be a game changer.
You would be hard pressed to find a more naturally athletic player at the Fishers Classic out of all the teams that participated. As a multi-sport athlete, Hall brings so much athleticism to this already loaded Fishers team and is a guy that you can expect to see a few highlight plays from game-to-game. He consistently dominates in transition, gets to the rim off of the dribble, and showcases an improving outside shot. Sneakily having a breakout junior season on the hardwood.
