Practice Notes
Skill development is off the charts as every players gets what they need in terms of skill growth. The guards are learning how to work in tight spaces when it comes to handling the ball or simply placing you body at a certain angle to help beat the offense with there lateral movement. It was great seeing big men step out into the perimeter to defend on switches and actually make it hard for the guards to pass.
I really liked how they passed the ball to the post in different areas and not on set plays but through motion.
Utah Prep has had over 40 Division 1 coaches come to their practices this year already. This team is still young with no seniors and they are likely to nab a few more players in the next few years.
Grind Session
Class has been in session as their players have been able to see a higher level of play when they play these teams like Dream City and Prolific Prep. The difference these players are seeing is that everyone is good and even the so called bad teams have Division 1 players on the roster. Utah Prep has to work for every shot which allows college coaches to see what they can do against similar talent that they will face at the next level.
Players That Stood Out
The player that you DO NOT want to miss out on if your a D1 school looking for a CG in the Class of 2026 and I repeat DO NOT want to miss out and that is Junior County Junior County 6'5" | PG Utah Prep | 2026 State UT . He is a legit 6’5 who runs the point a lot of the time for this team and he can protect and he can create and he can use his vision to pass. This kid has a few D1’s on him already but the sky is the limit on this kid. He is a three-level scorer but the different shots he can go to at the three-level sis impressive. He can pull-up in the mid 15-foot range but he can also pull up or use a smooth floater near the rim. If he has a smaller guy on him he can get in the post and do work. If you sag off he can hit from deep on a catch, off the bounce and on the move. Defensively he can defend 1-3 with no issues. His strength is increasing but he still has a high ceiling.
The next player that really popped was Gavin Gallagher. He has grown since I saw him last and he is a legit 6’10 and he might have to play the 5 for his school at times but he is more than just a big, he can move. He moves like an elite D1 wing. His strength has improved and so has his motor. His ability to pick and roll or pop is something that is a big time game changer. D1’s could use him as a 4 or a 3 depending on what they want to do. He can grab and go off of rebounds. Solid in a drag situation as he trails and he is leaping out of the building. He does have a twin on the team but if you can get this one he is only going to get better.
Massaer Mbodj Massaer Mbodj 6'5" | SF Utah Prep | 2026 State UT was looking great out there as a solid piece to what this team wants to do. His ball movement and his off the ball movement creates opportunities for him and his teammates. His role on this team might not be one where he is getting a lot of plays run for him but the kid can hoop and he is just scratching his potential.
Aly Toure Aly Toure 6'9" | PF Utah Prep | 2025 State UT is a big man out there. He looks like a Division 1 defensive lineman out there. He is 6’9 250+ maybe.
John Southwick John Southwick 6'3" | SG Utah Prep | 2025 State #234 Nation UT is not only a shooter, he is a ball of muscle out there and his leaping ability has improved drastically.
Anthony Felesi Anthony Felesi 6'6" | CG Utah Prep | 2026 State UT and his overall game has gone through the roof out here and his shooting has also risen. This kid is on the rise nationally.
