I stopped off in the afternoon and stayed late into the night catching up with some local teams, and others who traveled a long way. Here are the seniors who caught my eye on the day. You can check out more from the event here: Sophomore Performers, Junior Performers.
Josh Woodard Josh Woodard 6'0" | PG Richland | 2024 State WA | Richland
He had a quiet start to the game but Woodard plays with a big engine and wasn’t going to be held down for long. He’s got a smooth speed to his game and ended the first half on a little heater, making lots of plays on the go and finding teammates through the shifting defense. Woodard also made some nice plays rejecting screens when both defenders overplayed it and he was able to get to the hoop and convert.
Nate Krohn Nate Krohn 6'4" | SG Eastside Catholic | 2024 State WA | Eastside Catholic
He’s a bigger guard, usually plays a pretty physical game, and hasn’t been someone to back down in tight games. He showed that physicality with some tough downhill buckets in situations when the offense stalled, and has a great understanding of his relation to the rim while attacking, using it to shield his shot from defenders.
Harry Davies Harry Davies 6'4" | SG North Kitsap | 2024 State WA | North Kitsap
Davies is a guy who’s going to go full-bore whenever he’s on the court. He plays a high-speed brand of basketball and showed his explosive abilities Monday night. He went off for 33 points on a barrage of 3s, made several highlight blocks (3), and chipped in three dimers. The defense couldn’t push him far enough away from the hoop as it seemed almost anytime he touched the ball he was already in range.
Cade Orness Cade Orness 6'5" | PG North Kitsap | 2024 State WA | North Kitsap
Orness played a complete game in an upset win over Federal Way. He dropped 18 points, nine assists. six rebounds and three steals in the victory, and really showed off an all-around game that included power finishes, tough jumpers, amazing passes, and hard-nosed defense. On defense, he picked up Kofi Peyton Kofi Peyton 6'4" | SG Federal Way | 2024 State WA from the start and made it a tough night for the Eagles’ star guard.
Mason Thomas Mason Thomas 6'1" | SG Federal Way | 2024 State WA | Federal Way
On an off shooting night for the rest of the team, Thomas took over on his way to a 34-point outburst. He came on from the tip, putting pressure on the defense with his drives and ability to draw fouls, then taking some extra space near the perimeter to bury long-range shots. It was a constant mix and match of shots and he was able to get pretty much where he wanted all night, though he took a bit of a beating inside and earned more than a few trips to the foul line. He was able to just about close the gap for Federal Way late in the fourth after drawing two consecutive fouls on Cade Orness Cade Orness 6'5" | PG North Kitsap | 2024 State WA to force him out and cut the deficit to just eight points.
Blake Garza Blake Garza 6'6" | SF Davis | 2024 State WA | Davis
This guy has been a major factor on the boards the last few times I’ve watched him and he continued that high-activity play Monday afternoon. He’s 6-foot-5 but has a wingspan probably closer to 6-foot-8 and can jump out of the gym. He was a tough matchup for Seattle Prep and was a key guy for Davis on both ends of the floor while also defending the rim at a high level.
Finnegan Anderson Finnegan Anderson 6'5" | SF Davis | 2024 State WA | Davis
He has continued to show growth in his all-around game this season and was at it again at the showcase, primarily scoring off the dribble and shooting gaps, splitting defenders to the rim. His strength really overmatched the defense and he was able to create space with the body, stay balanced, and finish strong at the cup.
Jack Forbes Jack Forbes 6'4" | SF Richland | 2024 State WA | Richland
Forbes chipped in 12 points and did most of his work from about 10 feet and in. He’s a good athlete and hustled to find some long offensive boards to extend possessions. That athleticism also shows itself with the elevation he gets on his jumper, helping him sink those short to mid-range shots over defenders with consistency.
Jacob Cofie Jacob Cofie 6'10" | PF Eastside Catholic | 2024 State #97 Nation WA | Eastside Catholic
Cofie had another solid game racking up 22 points and 11 rebounds and really got it going outside the paint, dropping in some fallaway jumpers in the midrange while finding bottom on a few 3-point attempts too. Rather than bang inside with Richland’s Luke Westerfield Luke Westerfield 6'10" | PF Richland | 2024 State WA the entire game, Cofie recognized a mismatch drawing Westerfield further away from the rim and was able to get off some good looks.
Brandon Lee Brandon Lee 6'0" | CG Davis | 2024 State WA | Davis
Lee is a player who can burst out for big games and was able to lead Davis in scoring against Seattle Prep with 24 points. He’s a crafty guard who found a lot of success from 3-point but also deployed a really consistent floater from about 5-6 feet out. He plays up tight on the perimeter and racked up a couple of steals too, and was able to do some playmaking from the middle.
