Christian has been a great addition to this Wayzata team, as they look to make a fourth straight class AAAA state championship game. The sophomore guard is a threat to score from the perimeter, being able to play off the ball or create with the ball in his hands. He has shown improvements as an athlete as well, being very effective in transition situations. In the win over Shakopee, he ran down the floor and pinned a shot off the glass for a very impressive block. Wiggins is averaging 13.7 points per game on the number one team in the state.

Zy’Ierre made the move to Columbia Heights for his senior year after some really productive seasons on state champion winning Totino-Grace teams. I saw him in a victory over St. Cloud Tech and I was most impressed with his shiftiness and ability to work around his defender. He was scoring from all over the floor and being disruptive on defense. He was jumping passing lanes for steals where he would then finish on the other end and was also going to work in isolation situations. This included some super tough stepback and fadeaway jumpers. Stewart leads the undefeated Hylanders in scoring at 22.3 points per game.
I was pleasantly surprised with Isaac’s performance against #1 Wayzata earlier this month. He plays the game with no fear and put up 18 points in the hard fought loss. He did the majority of his scoring around the rim, going right at the defense. He is super shifty and can stop on a dime when changing directions. He utilized a lot of crossovers and spin moves to gain separation from his defender on his way to a finish. He is also able to space the floor, being able to knock down open looks from beyond the arc. Shakopee currently is ranked 7th in the state and Cordes is averaging 10.5 points per game.

The combination of Mekhi’s frame and skillset is very unique and he looked good in the matchup with Columbia Heights. He made his biggest impact as a facilitator, being able to create using the dribble. He has a super tight handle and showed off his elite vision, being able to find teammates for open looks. I think he is at his best in transition situations, as he is capable of pushing the ball up the floor. He can also score in a couple different ways, as I saw him get to his spot in the mid-range, turn around, then knock down a fadeaway jumper. The 6’6” senior is averaging 16.7 points per game, including a 34 point scoring performance versus Sartell in the first game of the season.
Jackson is coming off of a very productive club season on the Prep Hoops Circuit and has carried that into this winter. I saw him turn in a dominant performance in a win over STMA a couple weeks ago. He had a huge first half where he connected with six shots, including four triples. The lefty has a smooth shooting stroke and he was getting shots off quick in the catch-and-shoot. He was also finding success around the basket, working against a defender who was much taller than him for most of the game. He can go to work in the post, being very patient, as he uses a lot of pump fakes. The senior forward also did a great job of cutting to the basket for easy finishes. The stats were not posted from the game, but Hayes had around 30 points.
Riley came in clutch for Chanhassen in a comeback win over Mound Westonka. He connected with the game winning shot, a deep three off of an inbound with around five seconds remaining. This gave his team a two point lead, as well as their first win of the season. He finished the game with 18 points, scoring a little bit from inside and outside. He was knocking down triples off the catch or off the dribble, showing off his quick release when shooting over defenders. The junior guard also had some nice takes to the basket, not shying away from contact on his way to the rim. Johnson is averaging 22.2 points per game so far this season.

I saw Camare’ in one of the first games of the season in a matchup with Breck and was very impressed with his offensive skillset. Most of the Apple Valley offense ran through him, as he was creating off the dribble often. He is a true three level scorer being able to knock down triples off the catch or off the dribble, get to his spots in the mid-range, and use his strong 6’5” frame to attack the rim. The sophomore guard leads the team in scoring at 17.2 points per game, as the Eagles have had one of their best starts to a season in recent memory. This includes a win over Minneapolis North who is now ranked 6th in class AA.
