Expert Analysis

The combination of Mekhi’s frame and skillset is very unique and he looked good in the matchup with Columbia Heights. He made his biggest impact as a facilitator, being able to create using the dribble. He has a super tight handle and showed off his elite vision, being able to find teammates for open looks. I think he is at his best in transition situations, as he is capable of pushing the ball up the floor. He can also score in a couple different ways, as I saw him get to his spot in the mid-range, turn around, then knock down a fadeaway jumper. The 6’6” senior is averaging 16.7 points per game, including a 34 point scoring performance versus Sartell in the first game of the season.

Mekhi is such a unique prospect and reminds me of Dain Dainja when he was at Park Center. Edwards is a couple inches shorter than Dainja, but still has the ability to make the same kind of difference when he is on the floor. He has a strong 6-foot-4 frame, but can make plays with the ball in his hands when in space. He has a tight handle and has great vision which he uses to find teammates for open looks. Mekhi had at least ten assists in the game I saw and also threw down a couple strong dunks when the opportunity arose.
