The freshman phenom immediately strung together a series of huge plays on both ends of the court to spark a seven-point, go-ahead run on a steal and layup and back-to-back assists off an offensive rebound and then another driving dish.
“I was starting to make some plays and get into a rhythm, and he was like, ‘Keep doing what you’re doing and go take over the game,'” Haven said. “And I took that and ran with it and was able to do that.”
Other Tigers stepped up when called upon throughout the game, the run and the back-and-forth quarter.
But when the Bears (11-8) reclaimed the lead twice in the final minutes, Haven provided the answers to help close the 46-44 victory.
Elijah Haven Elijah Haven 6'5" | SF Dunham | 2027 State LA — 6-4 G — Dunham (2027)
Myers said he’s tried to push Haven to play more aggressively with his elite talent that sometimes makes one forget his youth. And the freshman rose to the occasion Friday against high-level competition. His handle and vision stood out most with his ability to find and feed his teammates, particularly as he attacked the lane. But he also scored 10 points, including four from the foul line, two on a post-up and two on a steal for a layup.
Matthew Hotstream — 6-1 G — Catholic (2025)
Hotstream finished with nine points, the only Catholic player to score in every quarter, and was disruptive on defense with active hands that led to multiple steals and other deflections.
Nico Jones — 6-2 G — Catholic (2025)
The junior guard led the Bears with 11 points, nine of which came in the second half on one of the team’s few 3-pointers, a pair of drives to the rim and a pair of free throws. The son of coach Derrick Jones stepped up to help answer the fourth quarter-opening, Haven-led Dunham run with four quick points on a drive into the lane, defensive rebound and coast-to-coast basket.
Mason Lavergne — 6-0 G — Dunham (2024)
The senior guard scored seven of his nine points in a productive third quarter on both ends of the court in which he also snatched a steal and pushed the ball ahead to Haven for an assist.
Tate McCurry Tate McCurry 6'3" | CG Catholic | 2025 State LA — 6-2 G/F — Catholic (2025)
Friday was a tough night offensively for the Bears, who topped their previous season low by just one point and made only one 3-pointer. McCurry finished with just five points, but showed his ability to work by tight perimeter defense and into the lane. And he battled on the boards and defense, including stretches blanketing Haven.
AJ Olivier — 5-11 G — Dunham (2026)
The sophomore guard finished with a game-high 15 points, including both his team’s 3-pointers and a pair of big second-half drives to trim a third-quarter deficit to one and to stretch a fourth-quarter lead to three in the final minute.
Brayden Rabalais — 6-2 F — Dunham (2025)
The springy veteran played with an infectious energy and toughness on both ends of the court and everywhere in between, with his rebounding, timely baskets in the paint for 10 points, blocked and all-around disruptive hustle.
Matthew Trahan — 6-3 F — Catholic (2025)
The junior forward helped lead the Bears’ offense early with six first-quarter points, was one of the team’s bigger, stronger bodies in and around the paint and on the boards and drew a fourth-quarter charge that helped slow Dunham’s run to open the period.
