SWFL came out on the losing end, registering only 2 wins, compared to the field who finished the day with 3 wins. All in all, there were some solid squads with a lot of talent that took the floor, and I will highlight some of the prospects who really stood out to me this past weekend.
Jarrett Wilson
Jarrett Wilson
Wilson is a strong guard with a solid frame, who likes to have the ball in his hands and facilitate the offense. The lefty PG has great handles and a quick first step, where he likes to beat you off the dribble and get to the basket. Wilson has a smooth jump shot, but really excels at getting to the rim and finishing with contact. Defensively his frame and overall strength allow him to guard multiple positions and also be an asset on the boards. Keep an eye on this sophomore as he continues to mature and grow his game throughout this season.
Sam Powell
Sam Powell
Coming off a successful season on the gridiron, Powell looks to get his basketball legs back under him. The 6’3″ CG is extremely athletic and can beat you in a number a ways. Powell got banged up early in the game against Bradenton Christian and didn’t see much action in the first half, but helped his team battle back with an amazing 2nd half. The dual-sport athlete was scoring at will, whether he was driving hard to the hoop or knocking down the outside shot, Powell could just not be stopped. He finished with a game-high 25pts, connecting on five threes, all in the 2nd half. Continue to monitor this prospect as he adjusts from playing QB to a do-it-all guard for this Golden Gate squad.

The 2027 6’3″ CG played well beyond his years this past weekend. He has great size and strength for his age, to go along with a high basketball IQ, making him one of the most impactful freshman I’ve seen this year. Lackaff can flat out shoot the ball. He has a smooth jumper with great form and a quick release. He’s an efficient scorer with his mid-range game, but where he can be deadly is behind-the-arc, he connected on 7 three’s this past weekend, finishing with a game high 25pts. Lackaff’s size also allow him be an asset on the defensive side of ball and help with controlling the boards. This kid has a developed game at a young age, let’s keep on eye on him and how he grows throughout his high school career, very high upside with this prospect.
Drayton is super athletic and quick off the floor with lots of bounce. The 6’3″ senior does a little bit of everything for this Sarasota squad. His athletic and jumping ability make him a force on the glass, and also on defense where he has the ability to alter and block shots. He’s a a great on-ball defender and his speed helps force defense into offense, where he can be dangerous in transition. He has a solid outside game, but likes being aggressive and taking it to the whole, where he’s effective at finishing at the rim. Drayton has a lot of upside and with a solid senior campaign should be on the radar of many coaches at the next level.
Highlights
Another dual-sport athlete, Lewis plays the game fast but controlled. He likes to push the ball and get out and run, where he is very effective in transition. Lewis showed his speed this past weekend where he capitalized on a number of fast-break opportunities. Not only can he finish on the break, but is very aggressive at getting to the rim and finishing with either hand. The 6’1″ senior guard is strong and can finish through contact, where he is also an above-average free-throw shooter. Defensively, he is a great on-ball defender who doesn’t back down from any assignment. Continue to monitor Lewis throughout the season, where I see his stock continue to rise with a talented Mariner squad.
