Probably more than any other league in the state, the Greater Wichita Athletic League returns its best players from a year ago. Take a look at the list of “Other Top Players” and “Other Top Players” below. They are ridiculously long lists of established all-state caliber talents. This league is going to be incredible to watch this year.

The Wichita State commit has already done just about all you can in high school. But he will put on display all his talents and try to get the Falcons back to the state title game as a senior. He's super experienced in addition to being super talented.

Preseason Team of the Year: Wichita Heights

This was actually a tough decision. Kapaun will be right back in the thick of 5A, and Bishop Carroll returns a nice group. But you have to go with the program with a couple of the state's best players in Williams and [player_tooltip player_id='1588339' first='Amalachi' last='Wilkins'] plus some really nice players stepping into vacancies.

Player to Watch:

[player_tooltip player_id='1270287' first='Will' last='Thengvall'], 6-foot-3 forward, 2024, Kapaun Mt. Carmel:

If Williams weren't in this league, Thengvall would be the top returner. But regardless, Thengvall will be the focal point of the Crusaders' push to try to get the 5A title that eluded them a year ago. He's a big playmaker who can handle the ball, battle in the paint and pick apart a defense from the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1408946' first='Corbin' last='Johnson'], 6-foot-3 guard, 2025, Kapaun Mt. Carmel

Johnson is not really a “rising” star. He was a huge part of the Crusaders' success last year. But in this league so full of all-state-caliber players, Johnson might have flown under the radar a bit as a sophomore. He will take another step as a leader and a go-to guy as a junior. He combines length, athleticism, skill and understanding of the game.
