This list includes players across the Borderland region from El Paso to Las Cruces; here are the top performers from this past week, December 18-23.
Jazhiel Herrera
Jazhiel Herrera
Despite coming up short in a pivotal 6A District game against Eastwood, Jazhiel Herrera had one of his best games of the season. The junior finished with a game high 18-points despite fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Herrera was the most dynamic scorer on the court, which is saying something, considering his backcourt mate Ethan Martinez, and Devin Falk-Ramirez Devin Falk-Ramirez 6’0″ | PG Eastwood | 2025 TX for Eastwood. The Franklin shooting guard was hitting from three, getting to his left at the rim, while collecting free points at the charity stripe. If it wasn’t for foul trouble, Herrera might have put up 30.
Lucas Brandon
Lucas Brandon
It’s been an up and down season for Eastlake HS as they currently stand three games below .500. That said, senior forward Lucas Brandon produced his best game of the season against Immanuel Christian, one of the best private school teams in the Borderland. Brandon scored a season high 18-points on a uber-efficient 9-for-12 shooting. Additionally, he recorded three steals, and on the season, he has five games with two or more steals.
Last week’s Eastwood-Franklin game was a physical foul-heavy game which saw both teams live at the free throw line. Thus, Eastwood star guard did most of his damage from the line as he scored nine of his 15-points from the stripe. Moreover, he hit some clutch free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime to push the Troopers across the line. It was another game that highlighted Falk-Ramirez’s ability to impact the game outside of facilitating and hitting from the field.
Highlights
Marcus Bennett
Marcus Bennett
With each and every game, Eastwood forward Marcus Bennett gets better and better. The development is obvious, and it showed in the Troopers win against Franklin this past week. Bennett paced Eastwood for the majority of the game, scoring 10 first half points and coming up clutch from the free throw line, going a perfect 8-for-8. On the season, Bennett is shooting 84.8 percent from the free line, which is marketable improvement from his sophomore year at 52.1 percent. Devin Falk-Ramirez Devin Falk-Ramirez 6’0″ | PG Eastwood | 2025 TX is undoubtedly the Troopers best players, but Bennett is a more than reliable second option who can produce when needed.
