Heading into their junior year, we have a lot of movement and new additions to this group. However, there will always be omissions and debates regarding placement among the rankings.
Here’s a look at the top five point and combo guards in the rankings.
5) Aiden Argabright Aiden Argabright 6'0" | PG John Marshall | 2025 State #220 Nation VA | 6’0” PG | John Marshall (#10 Overall)
Argabright is a player that we have been high on throughout his high school career, but the way he played this summer and fall makes me think he’s one of the top floor generals in the state regardless of class. He’s the type of point guard that you want running your team, as he handles pressure well and is always under control while knowing where everyone on the floor is. He has good wiggle off the bounce and changes speeds and directions well, he makes fantastic decisions with the ball in his hands, he draws contact often and gets to the line a lot and he picks his spots and scores it efficiently from all three levels.
4) Ashton Walker Ashton Walker 6'5" | PG Catholic | 2025 State #172 Nation VA | 6’5” PG | Catholic (#8 Overall)
Walker is on the verge of seeing his recruitment take off this year playing with this Catholic team, as he has grown to be a big guard who can run the show and impact the game across the board. He has a tight handle and can break down defenders in isolation and pick-and-rolls, and with his size he has the ability to see over the defense and deliver passes on the money others can’t make. He picks his spots and can score it off the bounce from all three levels, he has great instincts on the defensive end to get deflections and steals, he competes and is a natural leader and he simply makes winning plays for his team consistently.
3) Donovan Richardson Donovan Richardson 6'6" | PG Steward | 2025 State #166 Nation VA | 6’6” CG | Steward School (#6 Overall)
Richardson is the best guard prospect in the Richmond area and is on the verge of becoming a national prospect if he continues to develop and has a good junior season at Steward after transferring from Collegiate. At 6’6” he has fantastic size as a primary ball handler, and he has strong legs and a strong upper body to be able to play through contact when he gets in the paint. He’s become a more explosive finisher over the last year since growing more into his body, he plays with great pace and poise, he has a good handle to break down defenders and he is an all-around guard who can stuff the stat sheet across the board.
2) Kaden Magwood Kaden Magwood 6'3" | PG Oak Hill Academy | 2025 State #139 Nation VA | 6’3” PG | Oak Hill Academy (#4 Overall)
Magwood returned to Oak Hill after a summer of growth and has seen his recruitment take off this fall, and it’s only going to continue to grow if he can play well on the EYBL Scholastic Circuit. The best way to describe Magwood as a player is dynamic, as he is a big time athlete with natural ability to score the ball and make plays for others as well. He has a quick first step and a great handle to be able to blow by and break down defenders, he can create space and make contested shots from multiple levels, he is a good playmaker with a great IQ and feel for the game and he has a lot of upside defensively moving forward.
1) Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’10” PG | St. Anne’s Belfield (#2 Overall)
There weren’t many guards in the 2025 class that saw that stock take off more than Mallory this summer, as he played up on Team Thrill’s 17U group on the UAA Circuit and were one of the top teams in the country with him as a starter. Coaches finally started to realize that despite him almost always being the smallest player on the floor, he gets the job done against the bigger players on a regular basis. There aren’t many guards that are more skilled or productive than him in the country, as he consistently puts up big numbers and is one of the hardest players to contain. He has effortless range out to 30 feet and supreme confidence as a shooter, he’s an excellent passer with both hands with good feel as a playmaker, he’s strong and not afraid to draw contact and somehow he manages to be a good rebounder and defender despite his height too.
