Continue ReadingWe recently released updated rankings in the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026. But what would the rankings look like if we took all of those classes and threw them together? This is our Iowa Top 50 Prospects, Regardless of Class. As is the case with all of our rankings, this is a ranking based on college projection and potential, not necessarily who the 50 “best” players in the state will be this season. We continue our countdown with a look at prospects 31 through 35. (A hat tip to Scott Burgess at Prep Hoops Illinois for the idea for this series of articles.)
(31) Carson Johnson Carson Johnson 5'11" | PG Ankeny | 2024 State IA | PG | Ankeny | 2024
Johnson has battled injuries for the last few years, but when he’s healthy, he’s a dynamic playmaker and shooter out of the lead guard spot. He’s a really good ball-handler, and he shoots it exceptionally well off the bounce, getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly. He’s a good on-ball defender with lateral quickness and fast hands. He has committed to play his college ball at D2 Minnesota State Moorhead.
(32) Bode Goodman | PG | Southeast Polk | 2025
An athletic and physical lead guard who can score from all three levels, Goodman is a tough finisher at the rim who does a great job absorbing contact and finishing through it. He’s a viable threat from the arc with a smooth stroke and high release, and he’s a good on-ball defender who moves his feet well. He contributes on the glass on both ends of the floor as well.
(33) Emiliano Barrantes Emiliano Barrantes 6'9" | PF Grand View Christian | 2025 State IA | PF | Grand View Christian | 2025
Barrantes is a pretty raw prospect, but there is a lot of potential here. He has a long, wiry frame at 6-9/6-10, and he’s a mobile big man who runs the floor extremely well. He pounds the glass hard on both ends of the floor and does a good job keeping the ball high when pulling down rebounds. He has started to add some strength to his frame, noticeably stronger in the shoulder area during the summer. He can protect the rim defensively, and if he adds a little bit of range to his game, he could be a major stock riser this winter.
(34) Cailen Shadrick Cailen Shadrick 6'2" | SF Davenport North | 2025 State IA | SF | Bettendorf | 2025
A tough, power wing who sees the floor extremely well, Shadrick is a talented passer with a really good feel for the game. On the defensive end he has the strength to bang against bigger bodies in the paint, and the quickness and IQ to defend against smaller, quicker players on the perimeter. He’s really good on the glass on both ends of the floor and is a good ball-handler. He’s strong in the mid-range and is working to add some consistency to his jumper from deep.
(35) Jayden McGregory Jayden McGregory 6'1" | PG Valley | 2026 State IA | PG | Valley | 2026
Also one of the top football prospects in Iowa’s 2026 class, McGregory is a quick-twitch athlete on the perimeter who can do a little bit of everything on the hardwood. He’s a good ball-handler and playmaker who can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim or create for his teammates, and he’s a good finisher at the tin. He rebounds really well on both ends of the floor and looks to push the pace after pulling down a defensive rebound.
