Continue ReadingOn Monday we released our initial Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2027 Watch List featuring 190 of the best freshmen from across the state. We do not rank prospects in the freshmen class until we’ve been able to at least see them play for their respective high school teams, so there won’t be a ranking until our next update. However, we will continue to grow the watch list over the next few months before ultimately releasing a Top 25 after the first of the year. With that being said, we will know who a few of the very best prospects are in the class and what names you’ll be hearing sooner rather than later this high school season. Here are five Class of 2027 prospects that will make an instant impact at the varsity level this winter.
If there is a player that you feel deserves to be on our Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2027 Watch List PLEASE shoot me a DM on Twitter @BRamseyKSR or send me an email at coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com. I will make sure to add them to my database and include them in the next update of our Watch List.
***Please disregard the Position Ranking that is being listed in the player profile. We are working to remove those on the backend. All prospects are simply listed alphabetically.***
Before every suiting up in a high school game, Baker-Lands landed an offer from Eastern Illinois. The 6’2″ guard is incredibly smooth with the ball in his hands. He can create consistently off of the dribble, finishes very well at the end of his drives, and has displayed good court vision while attacking the basket. Plainfield is loaded in the sophomore class as well, but Baker-Lands should step in right away as a freshman and contribute for what will be a very good Quakers team.
There have been a steady stream of college basketball coaches stopping by Class 1A Tindley High School leading up to this season in order to get early eyes on this 6’6″ prospect. Lampley is high school with the ball in his hands for his size. He can handle the ball on the perimeter like a guard, has shown a smooth jump shot from the mid-range, and obviously has the requisite size to finish around the basket consistently. Look for him to make a major impact from day one for the Tigers.
The mixture of size and skill that Miamba has at his age is pretty special. At 6’5″-6’6″ he can handle the ball like a point guard, create plays for his teammates on his way to the rim, and also score it himself with ease in the paint. Defensively, he has an incredibly high ceiling with his length and athleticism. Penn lost a lot to graduation last season and will be in need of a talent influx. Miamba certainly can help with that and should get some run sooner rather than later for the Kingsmen.
Highlights
Zachary is one of the highest IQ freshmen I’ve watched in 13+ years of scouting/coaching basketball. He processes the game at a rate that most college coaches would be happy to have from their point guard, let alone a high school coach. Yes, he is smaller, but his toughness and skill level more than make up for the physical “limitations” right now. Look for him to step into a role for Fishers right away and help run the show in the backcourt. Zachary has the ball on a string, is an excellent passer, and can really defend on the ball.
