About Ries: Ries is an explosive athlete who will play linebacker at Iowa, so this will be the final hurrah for him on the hardwood. He has had a great high school career as a basketball player, entering his senior season with nearly 1,200 career points. With his combination of size, athleticism, and touch both around the rim and from the arc, he’s nearly impossible to slow down offensively at this level. When he gets a head of steam and is playing downhill, you may want to just get out of the way!
Why he can win Mr. Basketball: 28-30 points a game as a senior is well within Ries’ potential outcomes this season, and if he’s able to put up that type of production and lead Monticello back to the state tournament for a fifth straight year, he’ll need to be under serious consideration. His overall resume at the end of the year is going to be pretty intriguing.
