Continue ReadingMcCain missed his entire junior season after tearing his ACL, but is back and healthy now, and he’ll give the Vikings an explosive, quick guard to lead the backcourt. As a sophomore, he averaged 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists a game, and his ability to create off the dribble will be vital for Decorah this season. He uses his speed well on the defensive end of the floor, getting into passing lanes and moving his feet well as an on-ball defender.
If anyone benefitted from the McCain injury last year, it was Bockman, who averaged 22.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists a game on 47-38-81 shooting splits. A 6-3/6-4 wing with a pure stroke both off the dribble and the catch, Bockman uses his size to his advantage, getting to his shot and controlling the glass on both ends of the floor. He was forced into a bigger role last season, and it should make Decorah better this season as a result.
Highlights
A big, physical scoring wing, Marsh led the Go-Hawks in scoring and assists last season, averaging 14.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists a game. At 6-3/6-4, he uses his physical frame and good off-ball movement to create space to get his shot off. He’s a really good perimeter shooting threat who buried 40.7% of his 3-point attempts last season. He’ll play tight end at Iowa.
Kutcher is a knockdown shooter who can shoot it equally well off the dribble or the catch. He averaged 16.7 points and 3.5 assists a game as a junior for the Mustangs, burying 39.4% of his 3-point attempts and showing some playmaking ability as well.
Netolicky burst onto the scene for the Saints last year and made an impact well beyond the numbers that he posted (8.5 points, 6.9 rebounds on 56.7% shooting). He’s a really good finisher around the rim who has good footwork and soft touch around the rim with either hand. He’s a good communicator on the defensive end, and while he “only” blocked 0.7 shots a game last season, he altered several more and changed opposing game plans.
Hinz is a quick-twitch athlete with explosive leaping ability, showing the ability to finish above the rim in transition. He’s a really good perimeter shooting threat (42.1 3P%), but prefers to play downhill and use his quickness and great first step to blow by defenders and get to the rim. He’s a solid on-ball defender who moves his feet well. He averaged 14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists a game as a junior.
Highlights
Despite being just 5-11, Hagans was fantastic as a rebounder last year for the Panthers, averaging 8.2 rebounds a game in addition to his big-time scoring numbers. He put up 20.2 points and 3.5 assists on nearly 46% shooting, showing the ability to get to the rim seemingly at will. He sees the floor well and likes to get his teammates involved.
A shifty 6-1 guard who puts constant pressure on opposing defenses with his speed and toughness, Helmers thrives when he’s playing downhill and attacking the rim. In addition to his scoring and playmaking, he provides some versatility on the defensive end of the floor for the Bulldogs, guarding multiple positions and contesting shots. He averaged 18.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.3 blocks a game on 54-38 shooting splits.
Highlights
A bouncy, physical 6-1 guard who can do a little bit of everything for the Cubs, Khounsourath stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 18.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.4 blocks a game as a junior. He’s one of the best perimeter shot blockers in the state and is a good finisher around the rim as well as a viable shooting threat from the arc.
Garcia may get overlooked down in the far southeast corner of the state, but he put together a really good junior year for the Chiefs, averaging 17.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.0 steals a game last season. He’s a long, wiry wing who gets to the rim at a high clip and he’s a good finisher at the bucket. He’s a good athlete who competes on the glass on both ends of the floor and is a versatile defender who gets into passing lanes and moves his feet well.
