Continue ReadingCJ Brown CJ Brown 6’2″ | PG Kell | 2024 State #150 Nation GA enters his senior season at Kell and he knows what it takes, having won the state championship and earned all-state honors as a junior. The road looks much tougher for the Longhorns though after losing Brown’s big partner in the middle, Peyton Marshall Peyton Marshall 7’0″ | C Overtime Elite | 2024 State GA . I expect Brown to step up nonetheless and with more floor spacing, Brown’s scoring numbers could see a serious uptick. He’s so good around the rim, largely because of his tremendous bounce and we’ve seen that he’s willing to posterize any defenders in his way. His IQ and speedy handle are among the best in the state as well. Brown committed to South Florida back in August, allowing him to focus on one goal… repeat.
Marcus Gillespie Marcus Gillespie 6’5″ | CG Clarke Central | 2025 State #171 Nation GA emerged from the shadows last year, averaging 29.4 PPG for Clarke Central and now enters his junior season as a household name amongst local scouts. We have Gillespie at #7 in the state and that’s for a reason. He can go for 40+ on any given night and singlehandedly take over a game with his advanced offenisve skillset. Gillespie has also shown some special passing ability and I think we’ll see a lot more of that this year with the developed chemistry. Surprisingly, Gillespie’s recruitment hasn’t taken off yet but I believe it’s only a matter of time before MM-HM schools start pulling the trigger.
Highlights
The news recently broke that Jalan Wingfield Jalan Wingfield 6’7″ | SF Tri-Cities | 2026 State GA was headed to Tri-Cities, arguably the most notable transfer in the state coming late in the game. I think the addition of Wingfield instantly puts Tri-Cities in the state championship conversation. He’s our top 2026 player in the state and will certainly be one of the top dogs in 5A. Wingfield is 6’7 with broad strength and guard-like perimeter skills. He’s grown into a very consistent three-point shooter and there’s very few ways to really slow him down at this point. Personally, I think it’s time we start talking about Wingfield as a Top-50 prospect. Multiple high-majors have already offered including Florida State, Georgia, and Cincinnati.
Josiah Lawson Josiah Lawson 6’7″ | SF Tucker | 2024 State GA will look to end his storied career at Tucker on a high note and they’ve got a legitimate opportunity to compete for the crown, Lawson likely to play a crucial role in their success. Lawson has provided consistent production for years and his versaility opens up a world of opportunities on the floor. At 6’7, Lawson can play inside or out but I think he’s best working out of the mid post where he can utlize both the soft touch and passing vision. Whether it’s scoring, rebounding or distributing, Lawson excels in each phase. The Tucker Tigers, led by Josiah Lawson Josiah Lawson 6’7″ | SF Tucker | 2024 State GA , will be a tough matchup for any team this season.
Mekhi Turner Mekhi Turner 6’8″ | PF Maynard Jackson | 2024 State #271 Nation GA really blew up after a huge spring and called his recruitment off with a commitment to Kennesaw State in September. Turner now enters his senior year with a lot more confidence and a single goal of winning the state championship. Turner pairs high-level athleticism with some special insticts around the rim and he’s typically good for a handful of highlight plays each game. It’s obvious Turner has put a lot of work into his jumper and he’s now a respectable shooter from behind the three-point line. Maynard Jackson returns the core of Turner, Watkins, and Bowyer as they look poised to make a deep run.
