The lefty guard was making an impact with his jumper in his first game on Sunday afternoon. Now at 6’2 he has some size out on the wing, and showcased a smooth jumper that was falling off the catch or dribble. Showed some poise reading the closeout and knowing whether he could get off a clean look, or take one/two dribbles into a pull-up jumper. One of a handful of talented young prospects coming up at Champlin Park.
Isiah stood out as a go-to scoring option for his team throughout the day. A 6’2-6’3 he’s a long and lanky guard with some wiggle off the dribble. Was able to maneuver his way through the defense to get to his spots for pull-up jumpers. With his combination of length and elevation he had no problem getting up for mid-range jumpers. Really crafty isolation scorer who could see a lot of touches for Apple Valley as a senior.
Calvin had one of the best passes I saw all day, as he threaded the needle with a near full-court bounce pass hitting his teammate perfectly in-stride towards the basket. The sophomore out of Minneapolis Roosevelt did a nice job of sharing the ball with his teammates, and didn’t look like a player who just started his sophomore year of high school. Calvin was poised on the ball and showcased his three point shot that helped him have a productive freshman season last winter.
Highlights
Brayden came out hot in his 2nd game of the day, knocking down a tough step-back jumper, a three, and a strong finish off two feet to start off the first half. He’s very shifty at 6’3 and can cover a lot of ground in limited dribbles to create separation. Does a nice job of playing off two feet around the rim, which allowed him to elevate off the floor in various directions based on the defenders’ positioning.
Highlights
Randy’s shot went cold in game two, but in game one he showcased the scoring ability that allowed him to put up games of 42 and 31 points as a junior. Has the ability to create space effortlessly off the dribble by getting his defender leaning one way, and utilizing a long stride to step-back or to the side in the opposite direction. Always gets his balance before elevating for a jumper. When attacking the basket he would explode off two feet, and looked stronger playing through contact than he had in years past. Was an 18 ppg scorer last season, and could see that number jump again as a senior.
Highlights
Not sure there was a more impressive player in attendance than CJ. With his long and lanky 6’3 frame he was able to weave in-and-out of defenders to get to just about any spot on the floor he wanted to. He left defenders spinning with his lightning quick crossover, and before they knew it he was at the rim finishing for two points. Has the explosiveness to finish over defenders, but can also just hang in the air for some crafty reverse lay-ups. Good pull-up jumper from mid-range or three. Was a 23 ppg scorer as a sophomore including 35 and 37 in his last two games of the season. One of the best pure scorers in the state’s 2025 class.
