The Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 was a collection of some the top talent in the state of Michigan. There were talented players at all positions, levels and skill sets. We’re going to give you some GameChangers at the event that turned the heads of coaches, scouts and fans that were at the event.
- This is NOT an all-inclusive list. Just some of what I managed to see.
I’d heard the rumors about Hureskin’s game just like everyone else. But words and film don’t do this young man justice. He was a walking bucket at the Prep Hoops Top 250. Hureskin was able to score in the flow of the game as well as create looks with his handles. He was electric throughout the course of the day and college coaches should be scheduling a trip to Ottawa Hills this winter ASAP.
Brock did Brock-like things at the Top 250. He was an absolute show stopper with his ability to finish, not just above the rim, but above the rim with ferociousness. There were multiple times where Brock didn’t just dunk, he punished the rim. I became convinced at the event that he should be getting D1 offers sooner than later. Brock’s frame and athleticism are easily D1 caliber.
You had to watch Pleyer play and that will probably be a theme of mine for him over at least the next season. Stats and film don’t do him justice. Speaking of D1 talent above with Brock, there’s a high major talent hanging out in Watervliet. Due to his height, there are times at showcases where he’s forced to play out of position, but he does it and he does it well. Pleyer is a point guard at the next level and he will be an incredibly good one.
Highlights
Johnson was another showstopper in Grand Rapids this weekend. He was one of the top pure athletes at the Top 250. Johnson always found a path or found a way to get in the lane. When he got there he was terrific at manipulating space and/or using his pivot foot to find the rim. Johnson showed why he’s considered an elite finisher. If given any space near the rim he was sure to flush it home with a dunk. Johnson was a monster in transition as well.
Brooks was simply excellent at the Top 250. This young man showed up to play on Saturday. He’s a bouncy perimeter player that finishes at a high percentage. Brooks showed that he’s an elite 3 level scorer. He also showed that he doesn’t have to score to have an influence on the outcome of the game. Brooks is an underrated passer and defender. As a matter of fact, a lot of his points came in party due to his top notch defense forcing turnovers.
Highlights
Henderson showed everyone at the Prep Hoops Michigan Top 250 why there’s such a buzz around his name right now. Let’s start with his defense. Henderson is elite on that end. He effectively uses his length not just to challenge or block shots, but often times to drive the action away from the rim in the first place. Like most young post players, his defense is ahead of his offense, but that’s not a criticism. Scouts and coaches alike love his upside on the offensive end. As he develops a move and counter move, his offense will explode.
