Continue ReadingThe Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase has become an annual event that rivals any put on throughout the year in the Hoosier State. On Sunday afternoon and evening at Fishers High School nearly 200 of the states best Class of 2027 prospects came to display their skills in front of many of the most influential people in Indiana High School Basketball. This event is the premier way to get “on the radar” prior to your high school career. Over the next week or so it will become clear why we always say “nobody does content and event coverage like Prep Hoops Indiana.” With that said, here are the player evaluations from Team 14 of the 2023 Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
***With nearly 200 prospects at our event, our scouting staff (of three people) divided up the 20 teams to ensure that we could get evaluations of every player. However, as you can imagine, this is not the easiest task. Our staff watched each team they were assigned to for a minimum of one full game. There were some late player additions and walk-ups that threw a wrench into some rosters as well. So, if you notice that a name is wrong and/or a player is missing an evaluation please reach out to Brandon Ramsey at coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com or reach out via DM on Twitter @BRamseyKSR and I will resolve any issues. Thanks for your understanding and for participating in the 2023 Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase!***
Clifford made a really nice play in a game that I watched on Sunday evening driving hard to the basket with his right hand, stopping on a dime, and then spinning back to finish on the left side. The 5’11” guard can play both on or off of the ball, displayed some quickness when handling it, and is athletic at the end of his drives. It was a solid showing for the prospect from east central Indiana at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
A versatile guard from Bishop Chatard, Lloyd showed a real willingness to attack the basket off of the dribble throughout the event on Sunday. He would drive against closeouts on the perimeter or try to shake up his defender to get into the paint and create for his teammates. Lloyd, a 5’8″ guard, is comfortable with the ball in his hands and made some high IQ plays at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
This Brebeuf Jesuit product displayed some real ball skills on Sunday. Washington knocked in a tough pull-up three-point shot off of the dribble, scored through traffic with a layup after getting a steal, and was very aggressive overall on the offensive end. He can create for himself or others and looks to have a smooth handle while playing with good pace. Washington was one of the more impactful guards on his team at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
At 6’1″ with impressive length on the perimeter, this prospect has a projectable frame as a freshman. Modesitt will continue to grow and get stronger which will only make his outside shooting that much more of a weapon. He displayed a smooth catch-and-shoot stroke on Sunday with a quick release and good footwork in preparation for his shot. Additionally, the West Lafayette product showed a real willingness to crash the offensive glass which can definitely be a strength of his.

Coolman really stood out in the game I watched on Sunday with his ability to consistently get to the rim off of the bounce. The 5’11” left-handed point guard was relentless getting into the paint showcasing a tight handle, good change of pace, and some strength to absorb contact. He had multiple tough finishes when attacking the basket and was one of the more impactful guards on the floor when I was watching. Look for Coolman to be a name to remember over the coming years at Homestead High School.

Swain is a good off-ball cutter as he proved throughout the event as he was a non-stop mover away from the ball. His constant movement occupied the help and allowed his teammates more clear driving lanes, but it also led to him getting the ball in some advantageous spots as well. Additionally, Swain made a few very nice passes to other cutters too. The skilled guard has a high basketball IQ and played well at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase on Sunday.
There weren’t many prospects at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase that displayed a better intermediate range game than this Greensburg High School product. Simpson finished floater after floater showing off a soft touch at the end of his drives to the basket. The use of the floater allowed him to consistently score over larger defenders. He also flashed some good court vision and passing ability when he was scoring on his own. It was an impressive offensive showing for the 5’11” guard.
This Penn High School product was one of more talented guards that we had in the gym on Sunday. Dixon is still on the smaller side, but his talent and ball skill more than make up for what he may lack in stature currently. He is dynamic with the ball offensively knocking in a tough stepback three-point shot, creating off of the bounce, and showing some passing ability too. Then, on the defensive end, he was a consistently disruptive on-ball defender which created multiple steals that led to easy layups.

A talented 5’8″ guard from Lawrence North High School, Rhodes was a standout on-ball defender at Sunday’s Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. He consistently provided pressure to disrupt the ball handler and it led to a few steals. On the offensive end he drove the ball hard to his right against closeouts to get a piece of the paint. As he continues to grow and mature physically his game could really start to take off.
Volz routinely got to his spots off of the dribble including one very nice drive that resulted in a smooth pull-up jump shot around the free throw line. The 5’9″ South Ripley High School point guard is crafty with the ball in his hands and worked well off of the ball too finishing a layup after a great cut along the baseline. His basketball IQ was on full display throughout Sunday’s Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
