Oklahoma Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Evaluations

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Hoops hosted the Freshman Showcase in Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday, August 26. This event featured a lot of great freshman from across the state of Oklahoma. With around 80 players across eight teams formulating the roster, there was some great talent. On one end, he was playing solid defense and he showed the ability to turn a steal into fastbreak points. On offense, he was showing the ability to finish inside continually. Getting good positioning or making good drives, he would score at the basket one time after another. He also scored in transition, even finishing with a dunk one of the times. His offensive impact expanded beyond that, as he knocked down a three-pointer and had an offensive rebound and putback. He showed the ability to make good drives and to finish inside. He made the right play and had some good passes, while spacing the floor well. His floor spacing led to him knocking down a three pointer. He initially caught my attention when he stayed calm and knocked down a three right before the buzzer to close the first half of a game. Despite the clock ticking down and the defense closing out, he rose up and drained the shot. Throughout the rest of the game, he showed the ability to finish inside a couple of times. In the second game I saw him in, he made a way bigger impact. He knocked down a couple of three pointers, finished in transition, and drove and finished inside. His ability to drive the gaps led to defensive breakdowns. Whenever the defense would collapse, he would kick to an open shooter. He got an assist by doing this. During the game, he also grabbed a rebound. He shoots the ball with confidence, which was visible when he hit a pull-up jumper from mid-range in transition. In the next game, he hit a turnaround jumper. This was followed by him hitting a deep three and another three pointer. He did not take a lot of shots, but he maximized his opportunities by showing the ability to shoot the ball. Even though it did not show in the box score, he was making a big impact. Over the two games, he had a couple of times that he had offensive rebounds that resulted in putbacks. He had other rebounds, as well. He knocked down a few three pointers of the games and drove to the basket and had a great spin move that helped him score. Just like Nick Collison did for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Drew Eckel did for his team. His biggest impact came with his rebounding, where he grabbed one rebound after another. He showed the ability to shoot the ball by knocking down a three pointer. To go along with that, he scored inside. That is where his impact came from, is his rebounding and occasional scoring.
