Even though some top freshmen like [player_tooltip player_id='2316989' first='Tyrone' last='Jamison'] were not in the building, there were some other freshmen who showed off their skills at the Prep Hoops Freshmen Showcase in Baton Rouge. Players in the 2027 class, from around the state, flocked to the Team Sportsplex to show off their skills on the hardwood. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will look at some of the impressive players from the Freshmen Showcase of 2023.

Rodrien Dillard (6'4" | BTW-Shreveport)

Dillard was hands down one of the best players at the Showcase. He is a wing player who displayed that he has everything from lead guard skills to playing in the post. Dillard has a quick second jump that allowed him to gather rebounds and secure tip-ins as well. He also showed that he can shoot from the perimeter from deep and the mid-range. When the consistency in these shots grows, his ability to get to the rim will be more prevalent. Coach Sykes has him a legitimate player who will be a nightmare to guard man-to-man for the next four years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132725' first='Ahmad' last='Hudson'] (6'6" | Ruston)

Hudson hung out on the perimeter a little more than he did this summer with Ruston during summer league. He displayed why he did not hang around the rim as much when he gathered a couple of passes in transition and threw them down with authority. Hudson also showed an ability to make shots from the free throw line in. When he decided to rebound in the paint, he was dominant as any other 6'6" post we have in the Boot completing several rebound putbacks. Hudson is going to be a special player during his time at Ruston.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132597' first='Trae' last='Dorsey'] (6'0" | Zachary)

Zachary has a pool of talented guards and [player_tooltip player_id='2132597' first='Trae' last='Dorsey'] is one of the ones who will be considered "next up". Dorsey showed that he was capable of being a high level ball handler who can get off his shot against anyone. He was able to handle pressure from other guards and get to spots he wanted to on the floor. Dorsey was able to defend both guard positions with good footwork and active hands. If Zachary was not already deep at the guard position, I could see Dorsey playing for them this year.

KeShun Malcolm (6'1" | Ruston)

The lefty from Ruston was one of the better shooting guards on the day. He has one of those silky releases that travels high in the air and usually hits nothing but net. Malcolm has long limbs which caused some players he defended some trouble. He is also a good finisher in transition and ran his lanes well when his team had the ball pushing it up the floor. Ruston is building a powerhouse in north Louisiana and Malcom can be a piece that helps that ascent continue.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132749' first='Jaiden' last='Hall'] (6'0" | Captain Shreve)

Hall was the lead guard on a talent loaded Team 2 at the showcase. Needless to say he ran the one to near perfection when it came to finding his teammates. Hall was successful at dribbling and finding open cutters in man situations and open shooters when teams went zone. His usual reliable shot was not on the game I observed. However, his form is one that is the same every time he elevates for a shot. He will be a welcome addition to the Gator squad and may be a big piece of their offense off the bench this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2132743' first='Ethan' last='Kimmie'] (6'3" | University Lab)

The ULab product showed that he is a talented freshman big that will only get better. He was one of the stronger players in the paint on the day and showed that he could finish through any contact that was mustered against him. Kimmie also displayed that his could defend the post well and deter drivers with his strength and ability to block shots. He is a player who could possibly help University Lab this season with come post minutes.

We will continue to highlight other players from the Freshmen Showcase as well as the top 250 held in Baton Rouge as well. There were some players who made an impression on the hardwood at the Team Sportsplex last Saturday.
