Continue ReadingWe are currently in the process of updating our class rankings in the state of VA, so I thought it would be a fun time to look at who I would rank as the top 25 players regardless of class in the state. It’s a tough task as it involves looking at projections of younger players who still have a lot of growing and maturing to do versus older players who are more college ready now. However, it’s a fun way to look at and compare some of the top players across the state and their projections moving forward.
Obviously this is not perfect and a lot of things will change over the next few years, so let the debating begin!
* Side Note: We do our rankings as a team, while these are my personal opinions. Not everything will align with our last rankings or our future rankings moving forward.
20) Ashton Walker Ashton Walker 6'5" | PG Catholic | 2025 State #172 Nation VA | 6’4” PG | Catholic 2025
While Walker doesn’t have a ton of recruitment early on, I’m very high on him and think he’ll be one of the best guards in the area as he returns to the 757 after a stint with Oak Hill Red last year. He’s grown about 3 inches and now has great positional size as well long arms to compliment his terrific feel on both ends that allows him to make plays. He makes everyone better and can score it when he needs to, and while he only holds a few offers now I think he’ll take off in due time.
19) Styles Clemmons Styles Clemmons 6'2" | PG Princess Anne | 2026 State VA | 6’1” PG | Princess Anne 2026
As I’ve said before it’s tough to put the rising sophomore class up against older guys who are more sure things, but with that being said Clemmons could be much higher on this list when it’s all said and done as he’s already shown he’s one of the best guards in the state. The 6’1” lead guard was named 5A Region Player of the Year as he was one of the top scorers and playmakers in the state, and already holds a handful of local mid major offers. He’s dynamic off the bounce and thrives in the ball screen where he can turn the corner and make plays or create space, and he has a competitive streak to him where he competes on both ends and can dominate the game.
18) Donovan Richardson Donovan Richardson 6'6" | PG Steward | 2025 State #166 Nation VA | 6’5” CG | Steward 2025
Richardson has been well known in the Richmond area since he was a freshman, but he’s starting to see his recruitment take off as he holds a number of impressive offers and has picked up high major offers this summer as well. The 6’5” combo guard possesses the prototypical size and strength that comes with being a division one player, as well as a mix of feel and playmaking ability as well as the ability to create for himself off the bounce. He is a standout on both ends and comes across as a player that will be able to fit into multiple systems and get the job done on both ends of the floor.
17) Jordan Scott Jordan Scott 6'7" | SG South Lakes | 2025 State #130 Nation VA | 6’6” WG | South Lakes 2025
Scott was perhaps the biggest stock riser of the summer, picking up offers across the board from Big 10 and ACC schools alike who love his size at the 2 guard spot as well as his ability to shoot it and impact the game on both ends of the floor. He picked up over 20 offers this summer and can visit pretty much every school in the country with the buzz he has created. At 6’6” he has prototypical size and possesses the ability to knock down shots from deep consistently and with effortless range, and he’s an unselfish playmaker while also showing the ability to block shots and make plays defensively as well.
16) Austin Williford Austin Williford 6'4" | CG Saint Anne’s Belfield | 2025 State #137 Nation VA | 6’4” WF | STAB 2025
Speaking of defensive impact, there may not be anyone in the state that has the ability to make plays on both ends of the floor as Williford, who has been a staple of STAB since he was in eighth grade and is starting to show the growth offensively we have been waiting for. Williford is a defensive stalwart who can guard multiple positions while jumping passing lanes and being a good shot blocker at his position, and he’s showing the ability to create shots for himself and he’s an athletic finisher around the rim. He holds a handful of mid major offers now but I expect his recruitment to take off moving forward as he continues to fill out and sure up his skillset on the offensive end.
