It’s only a starting point for rankings and the list will grow and change with each coming update but we have enough information to start our 2027 rankings. Here’s a look at the top point guard prospects in the class. This does not include players who are ranked in the top ten in the class.
Brandon was one of the top performers at our freshman camp and should have a good role for St. Xavier this season. Dayes is a high level athlete who is a growth spurt away from potentially being a big time basketball recruit. Also a high level soccer player, you can see how those skills translate to the court as the point guard is lightning quick with the ball in his hands and goes through defenders like traffic cones.
Goodin started varsity all last season for Collins and will likely be their best player as a freshman. He’s also a three sport star who is one of the best 2027 football players in Kentucky and a star on the baseball diamond. Kade is not a great shooter right now but plays super hard and is a tenacious on ball defender. It will be interesting to see how he operates this season as more of a go to scorer.
Brown is going to be very battle tested by the time he’s an upperclassman at DuBois. The youngest school in the KHSAA, Ja’Rye already has a starting season under his belt and is going to be the rare 5 year starter in Louisville. On the court, Brown is skilled and has a good first step and is a willing passer. He has potential to be a top 10 prospect in this class, long term.
Cole is a big time shooter and probably the best shooter on this particular list. Trent has a quick release and deep range on his jumper. I’d like to see Trent be more of a playmaker and creator with the ball in his hands as opposed to looking to score first but I’m sure Harlan relies on him to score the ball and it can be hard to switch gears sometimes. Regardless, Cole is a name to watch in the class, especially if he grows a couple inches.
Highlights
Darian is an electric playmaker who can get past about anyone when he decides he wants to go and do it. Shy is quick and skilled and makes some fantastic passes when he’s got the ball in the open floor. His biggest area for improvement I saw at the Freshman showcase was to have his motor running at all times. He may be the most fun point guard to watch in this group when he’s motivated and has a killer mentality.
