Over the calendar year, Waheed has grown a few inches and now stands 6-foot-6 to go with a skill set that continues to improve. As a result, more programs are getting involved with his recruitment.
Waheed broke down each program and where the relationship stands with Prep Hoops while attending Will Barton Elite Camp last weekend.
Xavier: I have a great relationship with Xavier. They check in on me every day basically. We talk on the phone a lot and it’s a great relationship that we have built over time. I talk with assistant coach Ryan Anderson the most there.
Penn State: It’s pretty much the former VCU staff over there now, so I talk to head coach Mike Rhoades a lot. The relationship there is good.
Boston College: Boston College is one of my hometown schools, so I talk with head coach Earl Grant a lot. Being from the area there, we have been building a relationship pretty fast and have some things in the works.
Waheed also included programs such as Notre Dame and Virginia as others that he hears from.
“The programs recruiting me say a lot of the same things about my game. They say I play the right way and that I’m more of a team guy and am not a selfish player. I look for myself and teammates and myself. I also can make an impact on defense as well.”
Waheed allowed his game to speak throughout the duration of Will Barton Elite Camp on Saturday playing among a list of highly-coveted prospects from various classes. Not only does he bring sound positional size at 6-foot-6 to make him a viable option at the two or three, Waheed’s ability to shoot the ball efficiently from deep adds to his overall value. He can play within a structured offense or be more of a free roaming presence as he understands how to find open windows in the defense around the perimeter to make himself available for catch-and-shoots opportunities.
His game off the bounce has improved since the beginning of his sophomore season as has his athleticism.
Georgetown Prep is set to be one of the stronger programs in the IAC and will lean heavily on Waheed’s shoulders for production for the 2023-24 season.
