The Last Dance: Max’s Friday Standouts

Starting off with the pair of highlight reel dunks, where he slashes in from the wing and comes out of nowhere to throw it down with two hands. He's in the 99th percentile of explosive athletes in Minnesota when it comes to vertical off two feet. I was also impressed with how he was able to turn the corner off a dribble hand-off and get downhill quickly to go and finish off one or two feet. Has excellent body control in the air allowing him to finish at a high level even in traffic. Looks even more comfortable as a catch-and-shoot threat from three as well. He's an intriguing unsigned 2023 who can flat out get buckets. Strong and athletic frame at 6'6 which allowed him to bulldoze his way to the rim for some early buckets. After showing everyone he can get to the basket, he started expanding his game out to the perimeter. Has a creative handle and wiggle you don't always see in guys 6'5-6'6, which allowed him to create separation and get into his pull-up jumper. He's a gritty rebounder who's going to battle for missed shots on both ends, and seems to come in for one/two put-back buckets every time I watch them play. In the half-court he's active off the ball, and I like how he sees the floor on the perimeter with the ability to zip in passes to cutting teammates. Quick release from beyond the arc, but also does a good job of recognizing a lazy closeout and just blowing by it to drive baseline and get to the rim. Has some explosive pop to finish with a dunk but can also hang in the air to finish off the glass. Strong and explosive forward who can power his way up for finishes off of dump-off passes from his teammates. Also did a nice job of recognizing when to use a shot-fake to send defenders flying by before going up for an easy bucket. Runs the floor hard in transition and fights for putback buckets. Was able to get two feet in the paint and see the floor even while moving at full speed. Even with the speed he can play at, he never looked out of control and made smart decisions with the ball finding his open teammates either at the dunker spots or out on the perimeter. He spent a lot of the game defending multiple 6'10+ bigs, using his strong frame to limit their quality looks inside, while battling for every rebound he could get a hand on. Never took a play off as he was fighting on every single possession defensively. On the offensive end he started off hot with a three, and multiple tough finishes off the drive showcasing soft touch off the glass from some difficult angles.
