They won their first game against BTI in the Elite 8 of the Pro16 Finale, but lost by a couple in the Final Four to AAO Flight out of Arkansas after an inspirational comeback in the final minutes. Four prospects on Omaha Elite really stood out in both of their games today.
In the Elite 8 game against BTI, Devin Holmon Devin Holmon 6’5″ | PF Omaha Central | 2024 State NE was tasked with guarding one of the top players in the country. Holmon held him to 10 points, making it difficult every time he touched the ball. Holman’s defensive effort was a large reason why Omaha Elite was able to advance to the Final Four. In the Final Four game, Holman’s offensive production picked up, as he hit a couple threes, had some nice plays around the rim and was able to find his way to the free throw line. Devin Holmon Devin Holmon 6’5″ | PF Omaha Central | 2024 State NE had a nice day, and hopefully his recruitment will pick up because of it.
Daleron Thomas Daleron Thomas 6’0″ | CG Omaha Central | 2024 State NE does not stop: he’s all gas for 40 minutes. He was one of the toughest competitors I saw all day, and brought a ton of energy to his team. After a huge scoring weekend in Houston last time out, he received a lot of attention from both defenses he faced. Nevertheless, he was able to find his way in the paint for some tough buckets, and also connected on pull up and three point jump shots. What was most impressive about Thomas’ day was the effort and intensity he brought on the defensive end. He has a winners mentality, and will not back down from anyone on the defensive end. The buzz is seriously growing for the Guard out of Omaha.
Mynor Strong Mynor Strong 6’1″ | CG Omaha North | 2024 State NE had a great Saturday for Omaha Elite. He scored on all three levels, and had some huge buckets for his squad. Strong had the last five points for Omaha Elite in the Elite 8 game, including a nasty step back in the corner to tie the game up. He is a very talented shot creator, and has the ability to make tough shots. Strong also is a great and passionate defender. He made several plays on that end of the floor to help give his team energy when it was needed. Strong should see a boost in his recruitment after how he played on the biggest stage.
Quientan McCafferty also had a great day for Omaha Elite. This summer he has proven that he is one of the best bigs in his class. McCafferty connected on several deep triples today, forcing the defense to pull their big shot blockers away from the rim which opened up driving lanes for Strong and Thomas. He also cleaned up inside, finishing well around the rim. McCafferty is a reliable presence with a ton of versatility. His stock should rise after today.
