Continue ReadingHolloway got off to a quick start against Minnesota Select McGuire, but had an absolutely dominant second half, scoring 21 of his game-high 27 points in the final 16 minutes to help his West Central Wildcats team come away with a needed win. An intriguing blend of size, length, and athleticism at 6-7, he was dominant as an interior scorer, scoring around the rim with good off-ball movement, by pounding the offensive glass, and by creating for himself off the dribble. He has great body control around the rim and can finish through contact, is a good athlete with excellent length, and he controls the glass on both ends of the floor. He’s also a talented shot blocker who covers a lot of ground on the defensive end.
Mitchell Dewey
Mitchell Dewey
A confident shooter with unlimited range, Dewey was the standout for the Wildcats in the first half, knocking down six 3-pointers (he finished with 7 in the game). He shoots it really well off the dribble, getting the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the bounce, but he also showed that he can throw flames off the catch as well, using good off-ball movement and a quick release to knock down shots. He finished with 22 points.
Colin Leech
Colin Leech
A shifty lead guard who changes directions extremely fast, Leech does a great job keeping his defender off balance and getting to the rim using his combination of handles and speed. He’s a good ball-handler and willing passer who sees the floor well and likes to get his teammates involved. He has good footwork that he uses to help create space to get his shot off, and while the release on his shot is a little bit low, he makes up for it by getting into his shot quickly and catching the defender off guard. He’ll need to become more comfortable finishing with his left hand around the rim, but he’s an intriguing small-school prospect with his ability to play with and without the ball. He had 18 points and a handful of assists in Select’s loss to West Central Wildcats .
A 6-5 big man with a good frame that he uses to absorb contact and finish around the bucket, West had a solid all-around game for Select in their loss, finishing with a team-high 19 points as well as controlling the glass on both ends of the floor. He has good hands and soft touch around the rim and does a good job establishing position both in the high post and on the block. He showed the ability to play in both pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop situations, rolling hard to the rim or popping out and knocking down a pair of 3s with a smooth stroke that he looked really comfortable with.
The 6-3 lead guard was dominant in the second half of Hoop Dream’s win over Wisconsin Blaze , scoring 16 of his team-high 22 points in the final 16 minutes. He has great size and length out of the primary ball-handling spot, and he covers a ton of ground with his quick first step, long strides, and athleticism. He’s a good all-around defender, moving his feet on the ball and rotating well for helpside blocks as a team defender. He has good footwork and is willing to invert the offense, taking defenders onto the block for buckets or to initiate the offense, and he’s really good on the glass on both ends of the floor.
Berggren also poured in 22 points in the Hoop Dreams win, with 11 coming in each half of play. Throughout the summer, he has established himself as one of the best shooters in Iowa’s 2024 class, showcasing a smooth, repeatable stroke, quick release, and extended range. He’s a talented all-around offensive weapon who will post up smaller defenders, create off the dribble, and pound the offensive glass for easy putbacks, but it’s his shooting that is his biggest weapon and asset.
Ryan Schoeni
Ryan Schoeni
Schoeni is a really confident three-level scorer who opened the game against Hoop Dreams by knocking down a pair of deep 3s off the catch. He uses his jumper to open up the rest of his arsenal, putting the ball on the floor and getting into the paint for finishes or floaters. He’s a strong guard who absorbs contact well, sees the floor, and is a good passer. He had 19 points and a handful of assists in their loss.

Another strong lead guard from Wisconsin Blaze , Lamers uses his frame to absorb contact and finish around the rim at a high clip. But where he shines the most is as a perimeter shooting threat, both off the dribble and the catch. He buried five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 21 points in their loss to Hoop Dreams. He showed a lot of ability to shoot it at a high clip when he was off-balance, which while certainly not ideal, is a good attribute to possess. As he moves to the next level, he looks like the type of guard who will be confident and capable of creating and scoring in late clock situations.
Wilson had 27 points in Green Bay Freeze’s win over Colorado Titans White, routinely getting to the rim both in transition and in the halfcourt. He loves to play downhill and use his physical frame to power through contact for buckets, and he’s an adept finisher with either hand. He showed the ability to step out and stretch the floor on occasion, but he’s at his best when he’s attacking off the dribble or pounding the offensive glass.
