After two months on various grassroots circuits, players return to their high school teams for workouts, summer leagues, and various shootouts. This is always a good opportunity to get an early look at which groups are ahead of the pack going into next season. Also, you will begin to see where transfers have landed and who are some up-and-coming prospects ready to breakout as they get a year older. Now that we have a couple of weeks under our belts like take a way too early look at the five best teams in the state at the Class 4A level.
#1 Fishers Tigers
There has been a lot of turnover at the Class 4A level this year. The undefeated state champion Ben Davis Giants lost two Indiana All-Stars and a handful of other college-level graduating seniors. Penn lost their entire starting five including Mr. Basketball. Kokomo, Cathedral, etc. all were heavily reliant on seniors as well. However, Fishers brings back the vast majority of their production from a very competitive 14-12 team. Rising junior point guard Jalen Haralson Jalen Haralson 6'7" | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #8 Nation IN is a five-star prospect and one of the best players in the country. Rising seniors Taden Metzger, a Huntington commit, and Kennan Garner are back to play big roles once again. There is up-and-coming talent there too. It is wide open, but the Tigers probably deserve to be #1 going into the season.
#2 Crispus Attucks Tigers
The Indianapolis City Champions are going to look very similar to last season, but they will have the benefit of being a year older. Additionally, they added rising senior point guard Mason Lewis Mason Lewis 5'9" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN from North Central to add even more talent to their backcourt. Rising junior forward Dezmon Briscoe Dezmon Briscoe 6'9" | PF Crispus Attucks | 2025 State #107 Nation IN has been bringing in high-major offers after averaging 15.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game as a sophomore. Meanwhile, rising senior guard Ron Rutland III Ron Rutland III 6'1" | SG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN led the Tigers with 18.0 points per game while making 75 three-point shots. Deandre Lott-Hancock and Chris Hurt Chris Hurt 5'11" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2025 State IN are back as veteran contributors as well. Rising senior Demetrius Jenkins Demetrius Jenkins 6'2" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2024 State IN is another name to keep an eye on.
#3 Brownsburg Bulldogs
Losing 15.7 points per game from Marian bound Elhadj Diallo will not be easy to replace. However, bringing back literally everything else from a 22-5 team that lost in the Final Four to eventual state champion Ben Davis is still an awfully good starting point. 5-star rising senior wing Kanon Catchings Kanon Catchings 6'8" | PF Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #31 Nation GA is back after averaging 17.5 points per game and having a great spring on the EYBL Circuit. His ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter at 6’7″ is hard to handle. Classmate Grant Porath was a double-figure scorer a year ago as well at 10.3 points per game. Some guys will need to step up into larger roles, but the blueprint is there for the Bulldogs to once again be one of Indiana’s best.
#4 Fort Wayne Wayne Generals
Fort Wayne Wayne went from 4-18 to 22-5 with a trip to Semi-State in just one year’s time. Now, they will look to break through and go eve further while bringing back a large portion of their production. The Generals top two scorers, Jevon Lewis (16.6 points, 6.4 assists) and Chase Barnes Chase Barnes 6'1" | PG Fort Wayne Wayne | 2025 State #355 Nation IN (13.9 points) are both back. 6’5″ forward Trey Dillard Trey Dillard 6'6" | PF Fort Wayne Wayne | 2025 State IN returns 9.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as well. Elsewhere, look for Preston Comer Preston Comer 6'4" | SF Fort Wayne Wayne | 2025 State IN to make a leap going into his junior season. This is an athletic team with a lot of talent that is now familiar with winning basketball games. They will likely be the best team outside of the greater Indianapolis area this season.
#5 Kokomo
You could go a lot of different ways with this final spot. The defending champs Ben Davis deserve recognition. Lawrence North is likely going to be very good as well. However, nobody else in the state of Indiana has Flory Bidunga Flory Bidunga 6'9" | C Kokomo | 2024 State #7 Nation IN . Despite graduating most of the production around him, he is enough of a generational talent that he can absolutely keep the Wildkats as a Top 5 team in the state. Arguably the best high school basketball player in the country, the 6’9″ 5-star big man has led Kokomo to Semi-State and State in back-to-back years. He averaged 20.2 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game as a junior and shot an incredible 81% from the field.
