Another couple top prospects have transferred out of Ohio, leaving room for some new names in our top 15. In this article, we’ll break down the five highest ranked prospects who made significant moves up the rankings.
One of the big risers from the spring, Owens has been crucial for City Rocks as they went 8-9 during the EYBL regular season. Owens averaged double-digit points per game on improved perimeter shooting with 18 made 3-pointers across the 17-game regular season. An impact defender and transition athlete, Owens impacts the game in a variety of ways. This is the second time Shaka Smart has gone into Ohio for a high school prospect after grabbing Sean Jones in the class of 2022, Owens looks like he could be another impact player for the Golden Eagles from Ohio as he fits what Marquette wants to do at the college level.
White joined an elite 3SSB program in Indiana Elite and fit in perfectly as a wing shooter next to Flory Bidunga and a bunch of playmakers. His shooting numbers this spring were very impressive as he was one of just six wings who shot 40% or better from 3-point range and 75% or better from the free throw line on 25+ attempts each in circuit events. Other players on that list, as noted by Cerebro Sports PD Web included number one player in the country Tre Johnson and four-star Jalil Bethea. With interest from a handful of mid to high major programs, it’ll be interesting to see where White makes his decision to play his college ball at.
One of the more talented scorers in Ohio, Shrout has taken a step with Wildcat Select this spring on the 3SSB circuit. Able to score in tight spaces and an elite shooter, Shrout is capable of going off against pretty much any grassroots team in the country. Another aspect about his game that I love is his competitiveness, not backing down against any competition. Needing to go to the right fit, Shrout recently received an offer from Columbia but has been pursued by a few MAC and other low to mid major schools for over a year now.
Burris joined Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB with a few teammates from his Mid Ohio Pumas squad and has had some big time games this spring at live period events. One of the top 10 most efficient 3SSB scorers in the first two sessions alongside Ohio native Colin White Colin White 6’5″ | SG Ottawa Glandorf | 2024 State #156 Nation OH and Midwest teammate Trent Noah, Burris has been a standout against higher level competition. With his impressive performances, I expected there to be more recruiting buzz around Burris this spring. So far Radford is the only new offer for Burris after he gained Miami (OH), Ohio and Akron last summer. If Burris continues to play at this level during July there should be more low to mid major schools throwing their name in the hat for his talents.
A state champion with Hoban, Nichols has made major strides with his body and defensive ability over the past 12 months and it’s really paid off. A role player for Indy Heat, Nichols scored 53 points during the EYBL regular season. If Nichols can make a leap as a 3-point shooter it could really open up the rest of his game, as he shot just 5/23 during EYBL play. As an isolation scorer at the high school level there’s few guys better than him and with his leap defensively that he made he is getting ready to play early at the college level. As a decision maker Nichols had a 13/5 A/TO ratio for Indy Heat, which is a limited sample but showing that he takes care of the basketball. Hoban loses a couple key pieces from their state championship squad, but Nichols and Sam Greer Sam Greer 6’8″ | C Archbishop Hoban | 2026 State OH will try and bring the Knicks back to contention this upcoming season.
