There were a lot of new faces added just outside the Top 100 in the latest 2025 rankings update. 6-foot-6 forward Tay Tangiora Tay Tangiora 6’6″ | PF Swansboro | 2025 State NC is the first of those prospects, making a splash at No. 102 in his debut. He showed poise as an interior presence on both ends of the floor for the East Coast All-Stars and did well to utilize his size/length to make an impact when given opportunities. As we get more viewings of him, he’s one prospect we expect to crack the Top 100 very soon.
JD Bowden JD Bowden 6’1″ | PG United Faith Christian Academy | 2025 State NC is a prospect that’s starting to grow on the grassroots scene with Team Curry this spring. He’s a prospect that was seen late in the high school season during the NCISAA Playoffs and is due to grow into a bigger role with United Faith Christian Academy entering his junior season. He’s already earned offers from North Carolina A&T, High Point and Western Carolina University as the June Contact Period opened up. He’s a scrappy 6-foot-1 prospect that can operate at either guard role in the backcourt.

Julian Johnson Julian Johnson 6’6″ | PF Providence Day | 2025 State NC is another sizeable name in the 2025 rankings at Lake Norman Charter that’s a sleeper to get eyes on at 6-foot-7. He does a masterful job of tracking the ball on both ends of the floor as a shot-blocker and rebounder. He does well to extend and finish in traffic with and without contact present, at times a lost art in the painted area. He’s due to have a strong junior campaign as his development continues in the frontcourt as both a threat in the paint and the perimeter.

Highlights
Tae Barnes Tae Barnes 5’11” | CG Wilson Prep | 2025 State NC is due to grow into a bigger role in the Wilson Prep backcourt as he’s shown his strides as a creator and attacker this spring with Carolina Swarm Monk. He’s been another name to keep an eye on alongside William Monk III William Monk III 6’3″ | CG Fike | 2025 State NC as their second featured guard. He’s got tremendous handles which allow him to navigate into the teeth of the defense and make things happen around the rim as a finisher and playmaker. He’ll be one to track as the Tigers look to win another state title.
Jake Benham Jake Benham 6’2″ | SG Concord Academy | 2025 State NC is already making his case for top 3-point shooter in the class following impressive outings at the NCISAA Live Period event in the past few weeks. He’s shown impressive confidence knocking down a multitude of shots on the perimeter and easily has given reason for colleges to take notice of what he can do on the floor entering a pivotal junior season. After averaging just 5.5 ppg in 2022-23 at Concord Academy, look for him to turn a corner in 2023-24.
