Florida is represented by Columbus and the Boozer twins, Idaho by 5A powerhouse Owyhee, Utah by last year’s 6A State Champion Corner Canyon, and California by the likes of Corona Centennial and many others.
John caught fire on Friday afternoon against Archbishop Riordan in Sunnyslope’s tough 1 point loss. Mattingly confidently scored the ball at all 3 levels, hit threes off the dribble and the catch, and showed good aggressiveness and tenacity in attacking the basket.
Zion played a solid all around game on Friday in Archbishop Riordan’s 1-point win over Sunnyslope. The long point forward does a good job of playmaking at his size and threw several nice passes to find cutting teammates throughout the game. Sensley also has the capability to stretch the floor as a 3 point shooter but needs to become more efficient.
Jacob showed off his multi dimensional skillset on Friday afternoon in Eastside Catholic’s tough less to Mater Dei. He can handle very well for his size which enables him to be a perimeter scoring threat with a quickness advantage over most defenders his size. Cofie can also shoot the ball effectively from all over the floor and with his high release point it’s very difficult to really bother him.
Jasir played well in the open court on Friday afternoon in Archbishop Riordan’s 1 point win over Sunnyslope. He’s a bouncy athlete who uses his leaping ability and speed to create separation from defenders. Rencher can also provide spacing in the half court as teams have to respect his 3 point shooting ability and it gives him the opportunity to attack closeouts.
Highlights
Scotty moved terrifically without the ball on Friday afternoon in Mater Dei’s win over Eastside Catholic. He scores the ball efficiently at all three levels including having a very smooth mid range game, rebounds at both ends, and is a versatile defender thanks to his length.
Jaxon played a great all around game on Friday afternoon in Alta’s competitive in over Sierra Canyon. He protected the rim effectively against a talented group of athletes and served as one of Alta’s best playmakers on the offensive end. Johnson’s height and passing vision enables him to pass over and around double teams at an advanced level and is a large part of what makes him one of the most sought after big men in Utah.
Markee White Jr
Markee White Jr
Markee showed off his greatly improved interior scoring touch on Friday afternoon against Corner Canyon. The big forward has great size and as his touch improves he can become a dangerous scoring threat with his back to the basket and as a face-up player.
Justice was one of if not the best on ball defender I saw today. He can be left on an island against the other teams best ball handler without any problem and has the strength, speed, and versatility to guard multiple perimeter positions as well. Griffith is built very well physically and attacks the basket with good aggressiveness but needs to refine his shooting touch to become a more complete offensive player.
Brandon played a great all around game on Friday night against Owyhee in St. John Bosco’s first round win. He did a little bit of everything; finishing with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks on the defensive end. McCoy Jr. scored the ball at 3 levels, showed a good understanding of how to create offense out of the pick n’ roll, and of course used his elite athleticism to dominate in the open court.
