The annual DMV Live at DeMatha, Virginia Live Period Shootout (VISAA) and Alexandria City and the first ever VA Live by the VHSL will take place at Saint James, all within a 30 mile radius of each other.
We will take the next week or so breaking down the many prospects for coaches to take a look at in these events, and there’s a TON of them.
Here’s a look at part four of the Maryland prospects at the DMV Live we expect to make noise at the event.
Kris Johnson Kris Johnson 6'4" | SG Grace Brethren Christian (MD) | 2024 State #288 Nation MD | 6’4” CG | Grace Brethren ’24
Johnson is perhaps the most under recruited guard in the 2024 class in the DMV, as he’s a winner in every way you can think of and brings an all-out style of play every time he’s one the floor. At 6’4” he has great size for a combo guard and uses that size defensively to get deflections and hound ball handlers, he gets downhill aggressively and has good athleticism to finish and plays well through contact and he can make plays for himself and others on a regular basis.
Daouda Traore Daouda Traore 6'5" | PF Clinton Grace | 2024 State MD | 6’6” PF | Grace Brethren ’24
Traore is a very talented prospect who is just waiting for things to click, and when it does he’s got a chance to be a steal at the next level when it’s all said and done. He has a great frame and is a big time athlete to go along with it, he has a good base skillset that allows him to put it on the deck and make shots from multiple levels and he can use his size and athleticism around the rim as a finisher and rebounder.
Tremayne Hawkins Tremayne Hawkins 6'7" | PF Grace Brethren | 2024 State MD | 6’7” PF | Grace Brethren ’24
Hawkins is having a breakout summer with Truth AAU, picking up his first D1 offer and could see his stock increase if he plays that way at DMV Live. The 6’7” forward is a new age forward who may be a little undersized classically for the position but makes up for it with his ability to run the floor and switch defensively, he knocks down shots out to the three-point line and he plays with a great motor as a rebounder and hustle type of player.
J’Lin Brown J’Lin Brown 6'4" | SF Loyola Blakefield | 2024 State MD | 6’4” SF | Loyola Blakefield ’24
Brown is an under the radar scorer who is gaining traction and getting his name out there, and now is the perfect time for him to have a breakout session in front of college coaches. The 6’4” wing is a naturally gifted scorer who can knock down shots from deep off the catch, he can attack the rim in the half court and in transition where he’s a good finisher and he is a good defender with great instincts to jump passing lanes and ignite opportunities in transition.
Mason Ellison | 6’4” SF | Loyola Blakefield ’25
Ellison is emerging as one of the top young wings in Maryland with his explosive athleticism and blend of size and skill that gives him a ton of upside. He’s a strong wing who gets downhill aggressively and is fearless when looking to get above the rim even in traffic, he thrives in transition where he runs the floor hard and dares anyone to challenge him when he takes off and he has a good midrange and pull-up game as well in the half court.
Andrew Dixon Andrew Dixon 6'1" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2024 State MD | 6’1” PG | Mt. Carmel ’24
Dixon is part of a very talented backcourt for this Mt. Carmel team, and he’s the leader who is going to the primary ball handler and playmaker for this group. He has great feel and vision with the ball in his hands, he’s shifty with a great handle that allows him to break down defenders and touch the paint in isolation and pick-and-roll situations and he is a good finisher if help defense is late to rotate.
Mario Tatum Mario Tatum 6'2" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2025 State MD | 6’2” PG | Mt. Carmel ’25
Tatum is another part of this talented backcourt, as the 6’2” point guard is emerging as a player to keep an eye on in the 2025 class moving forward. He fits perfectly with Dixon as he can also handle the ball and make plays but can move off the ball as well, he’s a very good shooter from deep both off the catch and off the bounce and he can make plays for other off the bounce as well.
Tyonne Farrell Tyonne Farrell 6'6" | PF Mount St. Joseph | 2024 State #210 Nation MD | 6’6” PF | Mount St. Joe’s ’24
Farrell had a breakout performance at last year’s DMV Live and started his ascend to being one of the top prospects in Baltimore, and if coaches are smart they’ll take a look at him because he’s still without as much college interest as I think he deserves. The 6’6” forward is a ball of energy that fits that new model big man with his high motor and athleticism, he gets up and down and can switch defensively and he’s a blue collar guy who rebounds and does all the dirty work while being efficient and playing within his game.
