Somerville shines
2024 Martin Somerville’s stock has risen steadily over the last three months and after his performance today in a win over Grace Brethren, I think it’s safe to say that trend will remain. The 6’2 lefty combo guard went for 30 in an efficient manner that included knocking down five of his eight attempts from three. He’s commanding more of a presence off the dribble while doing his due diligence on the glass as he collected seven boards.
Jackson backs his elite status
St. Frances struggled as a team against two stout opponents in DeMatha and Paul VI, taking two tough losses on the day. If there was one bright spot it was 2025 Tyler Jackson Tyler Jackson 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2025 #40 Nation MD ‘s elite scoring ability that was on display throughout. The 6’2-‘6’3 guard put on a clinic in how to create separation and bury triples with regularity in front of the sea of high major coaches, most of whom will be prioritizing him moving forward.
PVI and DeMatha’s war
In the WCAC it doesn’t matter if one team comes into a game considered as a top five program in the country, it’s going to be a battle. For DeMatha, they made it clear early on that they wouldn’t back down from Paul VI despite them defeating St. Frances by more than 50 points just two games prior. The tone that they Stags set early on would remain throughout the contest and call for overtime to ultimately decide a winner. 2025 Jacob Wallace Jacob Wallace 5'10" | PG DeMatha | 2025 State MD would play hero as he buried a tough fadeaway as the final buzzer sounded to give DeMatha the win. 2024 Malcolm Thomas Malcolm Thomas 6'8" | PF DeMatha | 2024 State #122 Nation MD had an extremely productive day averaging 20 points, eight rebounds and six blocks per game. The stable of tough-nosed guards that head coach Mike Jones has at his control is impressive. 2026 Ashton Meeks Ashton Meeks 6'0" | PG DeMatha | 2026 State MD made an impression with his timely shot making and overall gritty competitiveness. He averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 steals in the two games.
Duke commit Darren Harris Darren Harris 6'6" | SF Paul VI | 2024 State #59 Nation VA caught fire late in the fourth to spark the PVI comeback with less than two minutes left. He led the Panthers with 19 points while converting on all seven of his free-throw attempts. 2024 Ben Hammond Ben Hammond 5'10" | PG Paul VI | 2024 State #143 Nation VA , 2024 Pat Ngongba, 2024 Garrett Sundra Garrett Sundra 6'11" | C Paul VI | 2024 State #148 Nation VA and 2026 Jordan Smith also had spurts throughout the two games played where they showed very high level production.
O’Connell’s special backcourt duo
The 2026 duo of Adam Oumiddoch Adam Oumiddoch 6'4" | SG Bishop O'Connell | 2026 VA and Quincy Wadley Quincy Wadley 6'5" | SF Bishop O'Connell | 2026 State VA established themselves as formidable freshmen last season in the WCAC. Both now have more polish, confidence and maturity to their games that support the thought of becoming highly coveted prospects as their careers progress. Oumiddoch is a 6’5 crafty scoring guard who knocked down jumpers at a high difficulty. He can create space by himself, but often times relies on elevating over the defender using is size and length. He led O’Connell with 15 points in their win over George School. Wadley is another scoring threat with length and fluidity. If he finds his shot from deep he can put up points in a hurry. The 6’4 guard connected on three triples on his way to 13 points while grabbing six rebounds.
Other quick notes
-2024 DJ Wingfield DJ Wingfield 6'1" | CG Mount St. Joseph | 2024 State MD had a nice day for Mount St. Joe. In their two wins he proved himself as a snipe from deep by averaging 16 points per game and sinking 10 of his 18 total three’s on the day.
-The upside is evident with 2025 Highland School wing/forward Nate Ament Nate Ament 6'8" | SF Highland | 2025 State #12 Nation VA . His blend of size, length and skill are all indicators of a prospect who has several HM programs who prioritize him. He notched a double-double in their win over STAB scoring 19 points and hauling in 10 rebounds.
-Bullis put together a statement win over Mt. Zion Prep Academy and they did so with their defense. They’d limit the Warriors to just 27 points in the game as a team, which stemmed from stout on-ball defense, limiting them to one-shot possessions and sharp rotations on the weak side. 2025 Adrien Stevens Adrien Stevens 6'4" | SG Bullis | 2025 State #113 Nation MD received his first two HM offers this week and he showed why more are on the way. He’s a three-level scorer with a mixture of bruising downhill strength and soft touch to go with body control when rising up for jumpers. He led in their win with 17 points.
