Brady had already been highly regarded as a prospect due to his high upside, and now looks ready to turn that potential into production as a junior. At 6’8 there isn’t much he doesn’t do on the offensive end. He spent some time playing point-forward for his team, could attack off the dribble, threw down some transition dunks, and was hitting some step-back mid-range jumpers as well. At 6’8 he both moves and handles the ball in a way you rarely see players at his size do. That mobility translates to the defensive end as he was moving his feet with guards on the perimeter, and then using his length to alter/block shots around the rim.

State champion teams always seem to have talent just waiting their turn behind the big names. For the reigning state champs Wayzata, Ben is one of those players. He’s already been having a productive spring with Real Phenom, and impressed me in the game I watched against Lakeville South on Sunday. He just seems to be one step ahead of everyone else on the floor, and makes quick decisions as soon as the ball gets to him. Can hit the three, has a quick burst to beat his man off the dribble, and handles it well in pressure situations. Had a lot of success passing it ahead in transition to create easy buckets for his teammates. Can sit in a stance and defend in a disciplined manner, but also knows when to pick his chances to jump passes and get out in the open floor.

Like Ben, Aidan was a role player on a loaded team last season who is stepping into a much bigger role as a senior. In the AAAA title game Aidan led his team with 24 points while also pulling down 11 rebounds in the win. He’s a long and lanky guard at 6’2, and excelled at pulling in a defensive rebound and pushing the ball up the floor. Whether he was handling it on his own or finding an outlet pass up the floor, his urgency was helping lead to some high percentage looks at the rim before Shakopee’s defense could get organized. Did a great job of getting to the rim where he could finish or draw fouls for easy points at the FT line. Defensively he pressures the ball hard, fights over screens, and utilizes his length to get up in passing lanes and force turnovers.
Hanif helped lead Breck to the Class AA title on Sunday afternoon with a win over Holy Family. Utilized his quickness on the ball to get into the paint for finishes or kickout passes, while also showcasing his shooting touch from beyond the arc. Defensive pest as he’s super quick laterally which allows him to constantly pressure the ball on the perimeter. Hanif put together an impressive spring, and looks to be the floor general for a Breck team that has a very intriguing roster for next season.

Nolan provided consistent production throughout the day for Orono. Nothing too flashy, Nolan just understands where he can be most efficient from, and finds ways to get to those spots. Showcased a nice mid-range game and was consistently finding ways to get to the rim both on or off the ball. Active cutter who can catch his man sleeping with a quick backdoor cut. Showed that he can make plays running the offense for his team while also playing off the ball. In overtime against Mankato East he took the opening tip and confidently attacked the basket for two points to put his team in position to win.

Christian hit some big shots for BSM to keep things tight with Orono. Good frame as a sophomore with such a smooth stroke from beyond the arc. If you don’t have a hand up on him he’s going to let it fly and against Orono he was connecting at a high rate. Even had a four point play in the second half giving his team some momentum for a comeback attempt. Flashed an improved mid-range game as well. Really helps to stretch out the floor and open up some driving lanes for the athletic slashers on his team.

Holy Family came up short against Breck, but Kole gave them some life in the second half as he would go on to finish with 30 points. He has one of the quickest releases from three you’ll see across the state, as he can pull-up off the dribble in the blink of an eye and let it fly. Has the ability to completely take over a game when he sees a couple of shots drop. Can hang in the air for some acrobatic finishes as well. Defensively he’s a scrappy player on the ball, had a massive rejection in the first half, and in the second half he poked the ball free and out-worked his man as he dove on the floor to get possession for his team. Committed to Minnesota-Duluth later that night.
