Today, we will be continuing my “Bluegrass State Standouts” series as we continue to analyze in-state talent and break down a new position. After evaluating some of the most explosive combo guards in the state, here’s my list of the top 2025 center prospects in Kentucky to watch for this upcoming season.
At the top of my list of standouts is Malachi Moreno Malachi Moreno 6'11" | C Great Crossing | 2025 State #21 Nation KY , a 6-foot-11 center at Great Crossing High School. Moreno made a significant impact on both sides of the floor for the Warhawks during his sophomore stint of high school basketball last year. In 34 contests, Moreno was the second-best scorer and the top rebounder on the team, collecting a grand total of 504 points and 387 rebounds, averaging 14.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Georgetown, KY. additionally shot 64.9% (216-333) from the field, 16.7% (1-6) from beyond the arc and 60.7% (71-117) from the free throw line. In addition to excellent size, speed and physicality in the paint, Moreno impresses me with his efficiency on the boards and his flawless rebounding performance last season.
At number two on my list is Jayden Miles, a 6-foot-8 center at Western High School. Miles made his presence known on both sides of the court for the Warriors during his sophomore season of high school basketball last year. In 27 games, Miles was an efficient scoring machine and the top rebounder on the team, picking up a total of 236 points and 258 rebounds, averaging 8.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Louisville, KY. additionally shot 62.2% (84-135) from field goal range, 45.0% (9-20) from the three-point line and 67.8% (59-87) from the free throw line. With excellent size, speed and explosiveness, Miles was a gamechanger last season, showcasing his ability to consistently rebound and contribute to the boards from range or in the paint.
Finishing at number three on my list of standouts is Javeon Cambell, a 6-foot-7 center at Western Hills High School. Campbell left a strong impression on the court for the Wolverines during his sophomore stint of high school basketball last year. In 29 contests, Campbell was the top scorer and the second-best rebounder on the team, recording a grand total of 543 points and 311 rebounds, averaging 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Frankfort, KY. additionally shot 61.5% (235-382) from the field and 51.4% (73-142) from the free throw line. With impressive size, speed and explosiveness underneath the rim, Campbell was unstoppable at rebounding the ball and made a big difference on the boards as well.
Coming in at number four is Cannon Young Cannon Young 6'7" | C Clinton County | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-7 center at Clinton County High School. Young was explosive on both sides of the court for the Bulldogs during his sophomore season of high school basketball last year. In 29 games, Young was both the top scoring weapon and best rebounder on the team, collecting a total 387 points and 201 rebounds, averaging 13.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Albany, KY. additionally shot 55.2% (148-268) from field goal range, 25.0% (1-4) from three-point range and 67.2% (90-134) from the free throw line. In addition to excellent size and speed, Young impresses me with his explosiveness underneath the basket and solid rebounding effort. Young also contributes to the team, making smart passes and shots.
In the fifth place spot on my list of standouts is Lual Ayiei Lual Ayiei 6'11" | C Danville Christian Academy | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-11 center at Danville Christian Academy. Ayiei was a gamechanger on both sides of the floor for the Warriors during his sophomore stint of high school basketball last year. In 25 contests, Ayiei was the third-best scoring weapon and the top rebounder on the roster, picking up a grand total of 227 points and 238 rebounds, averaging 9.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Danville, KY. additionally shot 51.9% (94-181) from the field, 12.5% (1-8) from three-point range and 61.3% (38-62) from the free throw line. With impressive size, speed and explosiveness underneath the basket, Ayiei helped his team on the boards and was a crucial component of his team’s rebounding effort, using his physicality to consistently grab the ball.
