The league has provided the opportunity to get to evaluate several players for the first time, in the hopes of adding them to future rankings. Here’s a look at some new names.
JPD got on my radar last week, this week, I had an opportunity to take a longer look at him. He’s a big body banger type, that plays hard. His best skill was his interior defense along with his ability to clean the offensive glass.
Bruce is a player the Cheyenne staff is extremely high on. It’s probably because of his playmaking skills. The first thing I noticed was his shiftiness, as the PG was able to handle in traffic and wiggle by defenders. The next was his passing, he threw some absolute dimes (many were not finished) hitting teammates in the hands for easy opportunities.
Nehls had himself a remarkable 3 minute stretch. He showed a combination of skill and toughness. The guard made a few shifty moves in 1 v 1 situations, getting by opponents and then completing plays with tough around the rim finishes.
Eldorado is building the program brick by brick, and Thompson is a good building block. The forward showed a good motor, and the ability to face up and attack the rim. The Clark transfer had an impact with his interior defense, rebounding and rim running.
Wanted to make sure I got a good look at Payne this week. He’s a tall player that has showed athletic skills, and he did just that on this day. I like his agility, as he showed the ability to simutaneously run the floor, catch and finish. He has good length and his athletic ability gives him a chance to be one of the better rim protectors next season.
The league is the perfect place to watch the development of last year’s JV stars, and Grayson was one of the more productive ones. Legacy played against a zone defense, which allowed him to go to work with his signature skill. The shooter was money from the corner, making the defense pay with his catch and shoot ability.
