SubscribeNot everybody is necessarily afforded the same exposure opportunities. Metro Atlanta is known for its next level talent and rightfully so, but there are talented players scattered throughout Georgia in rural areas and cities just too far for most to know intimately. Here’s a look at some of the Peach State’s better players tucked away in small schools dispersed throughout the GHSA.
The 7-footer is starting to pick up steam. McVey’s height alone will draw D-I attention, but his skill is much more advanced than where other near 7-footers from Georgia in the past have been at his age. McVey can stretch the floor with his three-point shot, but his bread is buttered in the low post with quality back to the basket moves. Jackson finishes with dunks and is a quality shot blocker. He averaged 19.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Expect McVey to pick up some High Major offers in due time.
Named Class 3A Most Improved Player, Zakariyya went from averaging 1.2 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.2 steals and 0.2 blocks per game to 11.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 blocks en route to also earning Class 3A Best Shot Blocker. Dwight is a long and lean swingman with springy legs. He’s got tools to work with and has plenty of momentum.
Dunbar is a sturdy 6-foot-4, close to 6-foot-5. He provides toughness in the paint as a rebounder and defender. Charlie is a bit of a combo-forward. He has enough skill to play on the perimeter and is quick enough to get downhill. His two-way value gives him a nice ceiling. He averaged 10.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
Rashund Washington Rashund Washington 6'4″ | SG East Laurens | 2025 State GA is quietly putting together a memorable career. The 6-foot-3 guard is a stat sheet stuffer, averaging 16.3 points, 6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. He’s a well-balanced scorer that sank 49-157 (31%) of his three-point attempts.
Banks County saw Watson pour in 15.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game on his way to an All-Region selection. Kolby has a feathery touch. He scores from all over the floor with his jumper. He can take his man into the post and hit turnarounds, or create off the dribble to get to his spots in the mid-range. Watson doesn’t have blazing speed, but given a glimpse of space, he can make defenses pay.
