Colton Benson Colton Benson 6'5" | SF New Ulm | 2024 State MN of Minnesota Rise (6’5 2024 wing/forward from New Ulm). For starters if a team moves the ball and Colton catches with his feet set, odds are that he is making that shot. He’s too good of a shooter not to. Another thing with Colton is his ability to use a fake and then explode into the dribble with the attacking step to finish. There is more quickness to his game than I first thought. Benson is also strong and has a good low post game so if he moves into an isolation situation to the post he holds his spot well to catch and finish. Also a much better ball handler and body controlled finisher than we saw before. His game has taken several steps forward in the past year. A 30 point per game guy in 17u and does not over shoot the basketball.
Kaden Braxton Kaden Braxton 6'2" | CG Shakopee | 2024 State MN of Minnesota Crossfire (6’1 2024 guard from Shakopee). After watching Braxton play this past weekend I have no doubt that he is going to have a strong senior season and that he could be a nice MIAC recruit. He’s a strong guard with a good touch and the way he has used his strength to get space on players with the attack, or to bump the player before the cut, he does a great job getting to space to get to his attempts. He knocked out four threes and scored 29 points in the game I watched Sunday morning.
Drew Daoust Drew Daoust 6'2" | PG Southern Door | 2025 State WI of Wisconsin Crusaders (6’2 2025 point guard from Southern Door). You don’t often see players that produce bigger scoring totals do it in a way where they don’t seem to be taking too many shots and they are moving the ball in a way that rewards teammates, and keeps teammates confident that their lead guard will reward them, but that is what I saw from Drew. Any pressure on Drew he did not seem to mind. He was patient but when the defense began to tire, or overstep, Drew attacked it. He scored 28 in the game I watched and it felt like he was more distributor than scorer.
Dominic Fairbanks Dominic Fairbanks 5'10" | PG Cass Lake-Bena | 2024 State MN of ECI (5’11 2024 point guard from Cass Lake-Bena, Minnesota). This weekend I gained a strong impression of Fairbanks and what he can do as a player and likely at the next level. Dominic faced one of the top two or three guards in the event (19 year old Australian guard) and his ability to use his speed (both in transition and after the catch in the halfcourt) was eye opening. That speed allowed Dominic to get to spots where his size against a taller guard was not as big of an issue. Fairbanks can get as hot as anybody when his stroke is on and it can come with pull-ups or feet set jumpers. Dom had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists on 9 of 14 shooting against that team of strong, older Australian players.
Oskar Kangas Oskar Kangas 6'6" | PF Iron Mountain | 2025 WI of Wisconsin Crusaders (6’6 forward from Mountain, Michigan). Kangas was one of my favorite players at the event. He’s 6’6 wing/forward that is very agile, explosive off his feet, and fairly strong. Those physical gifts are put to use by a player that runs the floor hard, rebounds with effort and can play on the perimeter using the skill or the smarts (fakes, jab steps, etc) to create space with the ball and attack to make the right play. Loved his effort and intelligence with every basketball play he made, and when you add in what he can do physically do I think he is a scholarship prospect.
Neil Summers Neil Summers 6'8" | PF Laramie | 2025 #221 Nation WY of 24MD Team Daum (6’8 2025 center from Laramie, Wyoming). Summers was one of the most interesting players at the Prep Hoops Live event. He’s a big sophomore in high school but he runs faster than people think, he moves his feet quicker than people think, and he’s quicker off his feet than people think. His low post skill and position is outstanding and that touch as well as the ability to use a couple dribbles really impressed. Neil put up strong numbers throughout the weekend as teams just did not have the size to work against him and Neil’s agility helped him deal with the help and get success.
