While we try to spotlight the players first here at PrepHoops, it’s worth giving some credit and props to the best teams so far this grassroots season. Read here for another roundup of impressive teams so far this spring, and their key pieces that helped them achieve this level of success.
Team CP3 (EYBL)
We would be remiss if we recounted some of the best squads in the state and did not include CP3’s 17U squad in the writeup. They’re a who’s who of high major and Division 1 talent, starting with all-around point guard Bishop Boswell Bishop Boswell 6'4" | PG Myers Park | 2024 State #68 Nation NC . As consistent a playmaker as anyone and with an ability to score the ball at every spot on the floor, he should be a high major target right now. Duke commit Isaiah Evans Isaiah Evans 6'6" | SG North Mecklenburg | 2024 State #17 Nation NC has joined them as a certified scorer, still finding his way but showing flashes of high level isolation work that he has in high school. Drake Powell Drake Powell 6'6" | CG Northwood | 2024 State #8 Nation NC is cementing his role as a lockdown defender and showing off his creative, playmaking side, Juke Harris is a shifty, fluid downhill threat, and Maurio Hanson Maurio Hanson 6'7" | PF JL Chambers | 2024 State NC and Clash Peters Clash Peters 6'8" | PF Word of God | 2024 State NC have been high energy, impressive low post finishers and paint defenders for this group. Isaiah Washington Isaiah Washington 6'5" | SG Winston-Salem Christian | 2024 State NC is another late addition that has been really effective at getting to the rim with creativity and strength, and should be a prospect to watch in future years. There are so many mouths to feed, but they’ve done a great job feeding everyone and making their way towards the top of the EYBL standings for Peach Jam in July.
Mid State Magic (Independent)
This is a group from NC that gets a lot less recognition, but they’ve had a lot of success this spring and definitely have some lower level prospects to get eyes on for the upcoming summer. Jerquarius Steinback Jerquarius Steinback 6'7" | PF Asheboro | 2024 NC is a super lengthy, athletic guy that loves to finish everything above the rim and uses his 6’7 frame to impact both ends of the floor. Tyshaun Goldston is a 2025 that has a good frame for a guard and really creates well off the bounce, both for himself and for his teammates. He’s got a good scoring package that ranges from a nice runner/floater to knocking down jump shots. Ramael Warren is a dogged, hard-nosed guard that will make winning plays all over the place, and Josiah Love is a marksman who I saw in person catch fire for 8 3’s in a game this April. I love what they’ve done as a group, and these kids seem to enjoy playing together and for each other. Hopefully they gain more traction as they continue having success this summer, and we’ll surely be adding these guys to our database soon.
Big Shots Elite Whit (Independent/Big Shots)
Whit Holcombe-Faye has put together multiple great groups of players, including his 17U squad that has gone 19-4 to start the season. The offense primarily runs through Shamarius Peterkin Shamarius Peterkin 6'3" | CG Mount Tabor | 2025 State NC , aka “Snook”, a dual sport athlete who’s got a very quick handle and explosiveness, and an ability to play above the rim on offense. He gets it done on defense too, with versatility and competitiveness present on every possession. Caden Fitzgibbons Caden Fitzgibbons 6'2" | SG Winston-Salem Christian Academy | 2023 State NC is an unsigned senior with an expansive scoring acumen, improving his game to where he’s able to make shots on all three levels of the floor. Emmanuel Black also is a 2023 worth a late look, playing as a rim runner who has a high motor and does everything asked of a big man, with a 6’7 frame. Iverson King Iverson King 6'6" | CG Forsyth Country Day | 2024 State NC and Jahon Foster Jahon Foster 6'3" | CG Forsyth Country Day | 2024 State NC have joined the squad at points, both being Forsyth Country Day known commodities with Coach, and both are worth looks from coaches as well. King is a nice wing that is multipositional and does whatever is needed, and Foster is a smooth point guard with a penchant for big moments. Campbell Scurry is a name that pops out for them too, a gritty guard that sits down on defense and knocks down the three ball with regularity. This is another team with solid names from the Triad area that should be a team to watch for college coaches of all levels this summer.
