The move: 5 to 2
A combo forward who can score inside and out, Noll jumps up to #2 in this update on the strength of his dominant state tournament performance and a strong start to the spring with Martin Brothers. A rangy rim protector with a ton of tools, he’s the type of versatile scoring threat that college coaches crave, and he has flashed some much-improved playmaking off the dribble.

(Norwalk)
The move: 7 to 4
Born moves into the top five in the class following a remarkably efficient junior year in which he led the Warriors to the state tournament. A skilled lead guard who plays with pace, Born is also capable of inverting the offense, taking smaller defenders down onto the block to either score or initiate the offense. He comes from a big-time basketball family, so it’s no surprise that he understands the game at a remarkable level, but it’s the improvement he made in his efficiency as a scorer that helped contribute to his jump into the top five in this class.

The move: 14 to 8
Another player who makes a small, but significant, jump up the rankings is the 6-8 big man from Iowa City Liberty. Throughout the early spring, Kampman has shown more on the offensive end than we’ve ever seen from him, and when that is paired with his already high-level shot-blocking prowess, you have a scholarship player. He’s a fluid athlete with good hands and timing as a defender. He finishes above the rim and has really started to put together some strong post moves.

The move: 19 to 14
Outside of his basketball IQ and understanding of the game, not much that Winkel does is going to blow you away. But all this kid does is produce, produce, produce. He’s a winner who loves to have the ball in his hands during the big moments, and he knows that he’s either going to get himself a quality look or get one for his teammates. He positions himself well on both ends of the floor and is essentially another coach on the floor for his team. He’s the type of kid that any college coach would love to have on their roster.

The move: 27 to 20
Few players in the state helped themselves out in March as Tigges did, putting together a phenomenal state tournament week in Northwest’s 4A runner-up finish. He’s a fantastic shooter off the catch who moves really well without the ball in his hands, but at the tournament, he showed improved playmaking and the ability to put the ball on the floor and create shots for himself and his teammates. He’s a strong team defender who rotates well, moves his feet defensively, and his shooting is top-notch.

The move: 31 to 21
Wynter had a tremendous state tournament as a sophomore, getting onto our radar as a long role player who defends and shoots. Then he had a great junior year, showing that he can not only play without the ball in his hands as a catch-and-shoot weapon, but with the ball in his hands as a versatile scorer and playmaker. He uses his length well defensively and is a disciplined team defender who rotates and helps well. He’s a fantastic shooter off the catch who has also really improved his shooting off the bounce.

(Liberty)
The move: 52 to 30
Hughes has gotten off to an outstanding start to the spring with the Barnstormers, showing that he’s one of the elite shooting threats in the state off the catch. He still needs to improve as an all-around offensive weapon, but shooting translates, and his off-ball movement coupled with a quick release and unlimited range make him a prospect that colleges need to be paying attention to.

The move: 54 to 31
Few players in the state have had a better start to the spring than Williams has had playing with the Iowa Mavs. A long, athletic 6-5/6-6 forward, he’s capable of scoring in bunches around the bucket, pairing great footwork and excellent touch with either hand and an array of post moves and counter moves. He has flashed an improving face-up game, knocking down 15-17 foot jumpers routinely, and using that expanded range to get to the rim off the dribble.

(Solon)
The move: 47 to 33
Benzing had an outstanding junior year for the Spartans, averaging 17.7 points on 52-46-85 shooting splits. A 6-4 wing who moves extremely well without the ball in his hands, he’s a fantastic shooter off the catch and has the size to get his shot off seemingly whenever he wants. He’s a good athlete who uses his length to get into passing lanes and make an impact defensively as well.

The move: 45 to 37
An impressive playmaking guard with a physical frame and great body control around the rim, Grant finishes at a high clip around the bucket and has excellent court vision and passing instincts that he uses to get his teammates involved. A majority of his damage is done inside the paint, using his quickness and strength to power through contact for finishes.

(Urbandale)
The move: 51 to 39
Phillips has really good footwork on his posts touches and can score around the bucket with either hand. He has improved as a playmaker, showing the ability to catch on the perimeter, put the ball on the floor, and can to the rim for buckets. He’s a good rebounder who uses his strength to hold off opponents on the glass, and he’s a deft and talented passer who sees the floor well.

The move: 79 to 43
Pfaltzgraff is a really good athlete with excellent size as a lead guard. He has a great feel for the game and does a great job playing with pace, changing speeds and directions extremely well to help blow by defenders and get to the rim. He’s a good perimeter shooting threat who can knock down shots both off the dribble and the catch, and is a high-level passer and on-ball defender.

The move: 63 to 45
Readus is a fantastic scorer who can create his own shot as well as just about anyone in the state. He handles it well and uses his athleticism and solid frame to get to the rim for finishes, and he also has a strong mid-range game. Adding some more consistent range to his game will be the next step in his development, and if he’s able to do so, he’ll be shooting up the rankings again in August or September.
