It’s a dream come true to write about great young athletes and people. Even better is the fact that Prep Hoops is a business that is truly in it for all the right reasons and a business that cares for the athletes and their contributors that cover them. In honor of all of you that have these 1500 articles possible, I’m going to give you 5 must see players.
Stephens was one of the more impressive players that I saw during high school season and he’s continuing that trend in grassroots season with DV45. He continues to be not just an elite scorer, but his does it with variety and with efficiency. I don’t think Stephens has ever heard of a bad shot, as his shot selection is tremendous. This spring with DV45, he’s shown the ability to score at all 3 levels and from any spot on the floor.
Savoury is playing with Midwest Basketball Club 16u and is proving that he’s a must see player this grassroots season. His mid range game and his slipperiness around the rim has really stood out. Savoury has found lanes to the rim and open spaces around it, and finished strong in those spots. He’s rose above defenders on his mid range jumpers and looked very comfortable shooting and scoring even in traffic.
Blackwell has been playing up with REACH 17u and ‘comfortable’ isn’t an accurate description of his fit. Let’s try ‘excelled’ instead. He’s shown that he can be an elite scorer in a 17u bracket. Blackwell has shown advanced strength and toughness and he’s been using it on his attacks at and finishes at the rim. He’s also shown 3 point range on his jumper.
Mercer II is playing with the Motor City Grizzlies and he’s been an absolute beast so far this spring. You need to check this young man’s game out ASAP. He was a dominant scorer at Spooky Nook, averaging over 20 points per game. Mercer II is a top notch ball handler that can change speeds and direction at a very high level.
Rykse is turning heads and grabbing attention with his play for United Persuit so far this spring. He was terrific in Louisville over the weekend where he averaged 24 points per game. Rykse is tremendous off a catch and shoot and it’s no secret why. He’s never surprised by the pass or not ready. Instead every catch seems so clean and right where he wants it. This allows Rykse to get the shot up quickly, cleanly and efficiently.
