With countless games condensed into a few days, Spring has truly become the evaluation period. For many freshmen, this may be the first time playing against high-level grassroots competition, making it the perfect time to shine. Let’s take a look at some potential Spring Breakout candidates.
Collins has the kind of speed and athleticism, that will be on full display during the AAU season. He bided his time on a powerhouse high school season, however the exprieince he received playing against the level of competition that he did, should allow him to more than hold his own against any competition this Grassroots season.

Similar to Collins, Simeus is coming off a year bidding his time for one of the top programs in the state. I saw the guard a few weeks ago during the Pangos Best of Vegas event, and was impressed with his development. He has added some muscle to his frame, and has turned himself into one of the top downhill drivers in the class.
Got to double check Williams AAU program, because I want to keep an eye on him this Spring. He put together a solid year for a Manogue team that rached the 5A final four. He’s a kid that’s used to competition, having played with the LV Knicks last season, and his shooting, and peremiter skills make him a prime canidate to put up some big scoring games this Spring.
Predicting a big grassroots season for Schweitzer. There’s something about winning a championship that has a trickle down effect, and reaches the younger players. Schweitzer had a strong JV year, and because of his competiveness, and IQ, you can bet he learned a lot while battling in practice.
Highlights
I first got introduced to Hearns after watching him play last Summer and Fall for Faith. He was impressive when they showed up to the Spring Valley Tournament, and doubled down during his performance at the Prep Hoops Expo. Don’t be suprised to see the shooting guard, put up some numbers in similar showcase events this Grassroots season.
Highlights
Harris was good when I saw him during the high school season, played well during a Showcase format, and now I’m waiting to get a look at him during the grassroots season. His skill set is good, without one specific signature skill, however his greatest strength may simply be his ability to make plays, as the Combo is comfortable playing both on and off the ball
