Join me as we break down the top forwards and bigs from the event over two articles. Below is our first group of standouts. Here’s part 1.
Kamari Stanfill | Texas Takeover
The 2023 product is your classic explosive athlete. Whenever he touched the ball, his speed and leaping paid dividends. He could grab rebounds and sprint past the defense to their big dunks in transition. Stanfill’s explosive first step gave him paint touches, and a missed dunk in traffic that turned into free throws (1 of 2 ft). He uses his athleticism to block shots in transition.
AJ Hairston | Elite Hustlers
Hairston provides size and skill at the combo forward spot. At 6’5 or so, Hairston can handle the ball in transition, use his body to rebound, and attack the rim in the half court. He plays a physical game with the strength to finish through contact.
RJ Harrison | GATA Academy
Harrison has a strong frame and a well-rounded skillet. He’s physical enough to guard up the lineup. Has the athleticism to score in transition, rebound, and the physicality to set hard screens. Harrison has a quick first step with flashes of being a potent slasher. His combination of athleticism, strength, and IQ are good bases for smart basketball.
Cameron Hudson Cameron Hudson 6'7" | SF Memphis Central | 2024 State TN | 901 Ball Stars
Hudson is an athletic wing who stays in attack mode. He puts pressure on the rim and finishes through contact. He posterized a defender in what could be the best highlight from the event. At 6’6, he has the physical tools and flashes of shot creation you look for in a perimeter player. He’s not afraid to attack the offensive glass.
