There are some super talented players at the top of the list and several others lower down the ranking that have massive long term potential. Here’s a look at the updated top point guards in Kentucky’s Freshman class.
Harrison was the highest scoring Freshman in Louisville this season and showed he can produce against any team in the city. Day Day isn’t the biggest guard but knows how to use angles to score over bigger defenders and is a confident shooter from range.
Highlights
Barring a sudden influx of talent to Cov Cath via the transfer portal, McGillis is in line to be the next starting point guard for the Colonels. Athens played primarily off the ball as a shooter this season but will have the ball in his hands much more moving forward. He’s one to track in the long term future.
Highlights
A veteran point guard who has already started two years of varsity basketball, Moss is shifty and quick with a tight handle. He can facilitate or create his own shot and is a solid three point shooter when he’s able to catch and shoot. He should be one of the top players in the 3rd region for the next 3 years.
Probably the best penetrator on this list, Owens is capable of getting paint touches all game long and has a nice finishing package around the rim. Amari’s ultimate role is likely as a floor general, creating for others. He led Bryan Station in scoring as a freshman so he’s definitely shown he can score the ball at a high rate in addition to his creating for others.
Highlights
Carson is the most physical player on this list and is capable of bullying anyone on his way to the rim. Fraley is strong and capable of getting downhill and finishing at the rim or kicking to open teammates for clean looks. He’s also a good three point shooter who is going to be a top player in the 12th region the next few years.
