Darius Chestnut Darius Chestnut 6'2" | SG Sun Prairie West | 2023 State WI | 6’2″ | G | 2023 | Sun Prairie West
In Sun Prairie West’s inaugural season Darius performed well and posted solid numbers: 14.4 ppg / 5.7 rpg / 2.3 apg. At this event, seeing his name on the roster, we knew that he would show out. Darius processes a scorer’s mentality, with some explosiveness to go along. For me he is a late bloomer with his best basketball in front of him. Even though he is offensively minded, especially at a show case camp, he has the ability to do the job on the defensive end. The 5.7 rebounds per contest tells me he has the will to go get the ball also.
Avery Houdin | 6’5″ | W | 2024 | Middleton
Avery is an interesting prospect to me; in that he comes to these prospect camps or fall camps and shows out; like really shows out. He has the ability to play this game. He has a skill set on offense that will impress and then some instincts on D that are deceptive. He started showing up on the scene last year and has performed well but has been behind some very talented players. First, at Middleton where seniors rule, he might just get his chance next basketball season. Second, he played a partial season with Wisconsin Playground and came in to shoot corner threes, where he enjoyed some success. Moving forward, Avery is in a good situation playing for Wisconsin Academy’s top team & going into his senior season at MHS. I expect a lot and we should keep watching.
Mason Kliensmith | 6’0″ | PG | LaFollette
I love this kid! Having been around him since the 6th grade, knowing he was never going to be a 6’5″ juggernaut. But with that said he has moxy. As reported, he was one of the hottest players in the state coming down to the finish of the season. Mason is a crafty player and when he stays within himself can make an impact. Having viewed his first game I ‘coached’ him on what I didn’t like, and he responded. That means the kid is coachable. He has ability to create for his teammates and puts them in a great situation to finish strong. If you leave him alone and don’t respect him, he’ll nail the three or drive and dish. At showcase camps Mason can focus on some of the flash too much instead of the substance of what got him here. This prospect can play at next level and I believe his recruitment is either a near local DIII or junior college route.
Dante Passello | 6’0″ | G | 2024 | Middleton
This was the most interesting upperclassmen prospect at this camp. He didn’t score or flash a lot but what he showed was solid play. Right play, right spot, right decision, right shot, all within a nice flow of each particular game. I learned that this prospect is new to the state this past year, having moved here from Texas. He has played on the EYBL circuit there, which a scout can surely see in his play. He was another player that was affected by the senior rule at Middleton. I think in the right situation this kid can play and will show us very soon. To my knowledge playing for a tough Wisconsin Acadamy 17u team this spring summer.
Andrew Rocksvold Andrew Rocksvold 6'7" | SG Eau Claire North | 2024 State WI | 6’6″ | W | 2024 | Eua Claire North
This player – I liked what I saw. He talked. He was always in the right position on the offensive end. Looked good and confident taking the three shot. For his school team he posted 13.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2 apg. Solid scoring chops but needs to improve on the physicality rebounding area for his size. If he does, then he will be a force. After interacting with the kid I am taking him if I have a team. Don’t know much about his AAU team but I am watching his school ball season for sure.
Mason Freilburger | 6’6″ | W | 2024 | Germantown
I am glad this prospect came to this camp. It provided me a chance to see him in a different type of setting rather that school ball, which tends to be very structured. Here, he showed glimpses of strong finishing as well as other offensive skill sets. I had seen him play twice within the high school season and was at first thought he was different player at the start of this camp. Season numbers 9.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg (team leading). Solid numbers but from what I saw untapped potential. I would coach him to be more physically aggressive getting points wherever he can get them. Then for the underperforming Germantown teams, as of late, to get the most out of him, open things up a bit. ABC Lions appears to be his summer team and you can now guarantee I will check out a game or two.
