But that doesn’t mean the efforts of the “one-and-dones” are forgettable. In fact, often some of the most impressive performances are turned in in the quarterfinal round by teams who head home on the losing end.
Here are some of the top one and done performances of the 4A-6A classes:
On a team loaded with young studs who will have their chance in future years, the senior O’Atis deserves one more shout out for his dynamic game. His blazing speed and quickness and non-stop motor make him a nightmare to opponents. In the loss to eventual champion Blue Valley Northwest, O’Atis demonstrated one more time his great play at both ends. He hit 4-8 from the field, 5-6 from the line, netted 15 points and also doled out 5 assists.
Joshua Parrish
Joshua Parrish
For the undersized and lightning-fast Eagles, Parrish played a front court position and had to guard and rebound against much bigger players. He excelled in this challenging role. In his final game, Parrish scored 12 points and hauled in 8 rebounds against the much bigger Derby Panthers.
Ruud (pictured) turned in one of the best performances of any player in any game in any classification. He battled furiously to keep Basehor-Linwood in the tough matchup with top-seeded Highland Park. He hit 9-17 shots from the field, most of them of a high-degree of difficulty. The future Washburn Ichabod scored 22 of the Bobcats’ 49 points.
The plan for Hutchinson was evident from the tip. The Salthawks’ quick guards were going to hound English all over the floor, making him work for everything. It was a tough night for English, but he dealt some nice passes to teammates and worked hard to get to open shots or to draw fouls. English got 22 points and also collected 9 rebounds. His 22 points and 5 assists accounted for 32 of the Purple Dragons’ 51 points.
Cole Pladson

Pladson went off trying to keep Clay Center within striking distance of eventual champion Hugoton. He got red hot from deep, hitting 5-9 and getting a total of 25 points and 5 rebounds. It didn’t put the Tigers over the top, but it fired up the crowd at Salina.
Jace Richards

Richards came off the bench for the Phoenix and lit up Bishop Miege with some impressive athleticism. The long, powerful big man hit 6-7 shots and 5-6 free throws en route to 17 points against some really talented and older bigs from Miege.
