He was one of the most prolific scorers of the era, averaging about 30 points a game over the past three seasons (33 per game as a senior). For a big-time scorer, English racked up assists at an equally high right. He was one of the leading assist men in the state with 8 per game this year. He was a productive rebounder and defender too.

The plan for Hutchinson was evident from the tip. The Salthawks’ quick guards were going to hound English all over the floor, making him work for everything. It was a tough night for English, but he dealt some nice passes to teammates and worked hard to get to open shots or to draw fouls. English got 22 points and also collected 9 rebounds. His 22 points and 5 assists accounted for 32 of the Purple Dragons’ 51 points.
